.when i read Ziets' post my eyes went agog. I am NOT in Jacksons camp, but he is too good to write off or dismiss lightly. See the time of the post. . . .it was numerous g&t's writing

It is very difficult to make a case for any of the 3 yo's as most of the top ones have yet to go 2000m. The collateral form to date indicates that it is a decent crop, but they are up against a couple of exceptional older horses so I will stick with the older generation.
Jackson is a deserved favourite and I can only see 2 realistic dangers. If Variety Club sees out the trip a little better now than he did a year ago in the Cape Derby he can beat J at level weights. Beach Beauty will get 5.5kg from these two if she does not win the Paddock Stakes and that is enough weight concession to put her in with an excellent chance. However she should take the Paddock which will give her a much deserved Gr1 (she was a desperately unlucky loser last year), but that means an extra 2 kg in the Met. She will still be competitive but I think only getting 2.5kg she won't be quite good enough to win.
The Met does have depth with some other decent sorts but those with Gr1 wins like Masterplan and Pomodoro have to face the top 2 at level weights and will be found wanting. Tribal Dance is a useful sort but only gets 2 kg from the big guns and I don't think that's enough.
Perhaps one of the 3yo colts will show something special in the Guineas tomorrow or even in the Queens Plate, or perhaps one of the young fillies likewise in the Paddock Stakes, but failing that I predict, Variety Club , Jackson and Beach Beauty to fill the trifecta.

Amazing how we all try to justify why favorites won't win...lol

I think that Variety Club is the best 1600m horse this country will ever see for a while(should win start to finish tommorow) and that Jackson's July run should be best ignored for the MET...once this horse starts his second engine at the 1600m mark then it's race over....course will suit perfectly from any position on the day...wonder what the double works out to?...surely must be a value bet?

I must admit, I have been trying to beat Variety club ever since he beat Jackson in the KZN guineas. But after that never again.lol. I love pomodoro, think its a toptoptop horse has won 1160m to 2450m, and will probably win many a mile races around. But the more I look at every 1 of VCs replays, the more I think he can't be touched over a mile- esp not in CT.
