Pirates, I'm a punter I'm all three>:D<

But on a serious note mate, as punters we do look for value, so all I'm saying, with Pomodoros 2 prep runs and his ability to race 4rm the start, surely he is the value in both the Plate and Met? Am I wrong in looking for value? They are group one races after all, which means that most of the horses in that race can run, so I will be tooo scared to back VC at odds on

Well, I'm not handicap expert or anything. But value for me is all about the money.
I back to make money, and to try make a decent profit. So value for me in any race is a horse that has proven ability, has a decent chance of winning, is a place certainty at more than evens. and will give me my moneys worth. As I said I'm no expect wrt to handicapping and wfa, and all that. But I do use certain methods of studying dt works 4me. And in the met I will back Pomodoro at 7/1 now with hollywood. Say I invest 200ew. So if pomodoro wins I get 700/100 and WHEN he runs in the top 4 I get 126/100. Basically it is value to me because I can't see Pomo run out of top 4. So I will get my investment back, will an incy wincy profit. And if he wins, then I make a decent profit for my investment. That's how I look at value. At the same time, I am no idiot and I do back favourites that I can't see loosing at times and I dnt go looking for ghosts. For example, 2day I can't see Yorker getting beat so at 7/10 I will anchor him. But in the Plate, I am not confident about VC anymore, so I will back Pomo(given he is a good price). Its more a personal thing.

I have a lot of respect for your postings mate, and you are extrememly informative, I apologise if my response has not helped you, but that's how I look for 'value'

From the mouth of babes 8-) .... I live in Cape Town, but I still prefer to punt with my brain and not my heart. My chirp about the July was in response to Winzip's 'beating average horses' comment. I agree with Variety Club over a mile at Kenilworth being almost unbeatable and methinks Muhti looking for spooks with his 'bleeding' comments....Jackson... well for me the jury is out still.....

The QP and Met are tactical races and anything can happen when people make plans......Joey is a master planner but his plans in the Met the year Tarry won it with a 50/1 shot came unstuck....got the QP in 2006 with Winter Solstice and gave specific instructions for Hatt not to eyeball Jamacia too early as she would have fought back....instead Hatt stalked her and took her on just before the finish and she could not kick on....this time VC is the one to stalk and take him on before he kicks....

pirates i agree with u,about the loose term "value"..a sure fire 1/5 a place is value for me...and i need not spite my face to go back a 7/1 in the same race...because of the pie in the sky hope that r8.00 is better than R1.20.....BUT THERE IS THE THE TERM 'value"...in where u make it a 2 horse race...where the favourite is 6/10 to win....and the other horse u fancy is 5/1 and 11/10 to run a place...here the word value kicks in..in that i am getting better odds for the same amount of risk
