Closure of two tracks

Hereford closed down last week and today Folkestone did the same. The first race run at Hereford was in 1771 and in 1898 at Folkestone. Hereford wont be abandoned as they are hoping to race there when other tracks are unsafe to race. Folkestone looks as if there will be no reprieve.

Is this the first of many to close in the UK. Only time will tell.

I have been to Hereford a couple of times but never Folkestone. I read a detailed report about Folkestone, and it appears that its facilities are really antiquated, and Arena Leisure were not prepared to invest in a low level track with declining attendances and profitability.
Hereford will be missed as it is in the middle of a strong jumping area, and there is a move for a new group to buy the licence from 2014.

Could it be due to the South African commingling factor?
