RIP Darlan
12 years 4 months ago
While AP Mc Coy was jumping his last hurdle on Darlan, Darlan came down & took a heavy nock on his head & neck.
According to RP it was a fatal accindet.

It was a nasty fall that sent shivers through your body.
After the accident Ap gave the rest of his rides for the day.

It's on the UK racing thread but as soon as I watched I was sure it was serious and a sad loss to racing

Very sad. Lost money on him today but no way for a horse to die. That is heart wrenching.
Great loss to the connections and industry

My goodness!!
I feel pathetic now, I took a bet on Darlan just before I left work, and then when I saw the result,I was mad.. Farking horse couldn't even place, etc, etc. Now I feel so shit,I has no idea.
This is very tragic,and unfortunate

Personally I don't bet on jump races, too often horses come down when a field of 10 start only 4 or 5 actually finish the race others either fall / being pulled out...
Really anti the 3km+ jump races... as I'm always thinking that there is going to be a horse coming down nearer the last couple of hurdles... imagine the fatigue the horses face near the end and still got to jump them hurdles...

Are there any stats on how many horses get put down over jumps compared to the flat. A horse broke down at Wolves last night, and while it is sickening too watch any horse get put down,i wonder what the breakdown ratio is? Mick Fitzgerald on At The Races said that the fences have been lowered placing more emphasis on Speed and not Jumping and Endurance.

I agree , Cannot believe that owners would want to punish a horse making it hurdle race .
