Urban legends spinning out of control.....some guys were/are using these devices to get stubborn horses into starting stalls .....it is illegal and a short cut.....I have one of these devices that my father had....he did not use it but took it away from another trainer that was abusing it and zapping every horse through the gates.....there is no fun in zapping anything with this as it is shockingly painfull and not very nice.....:X

Trainer Barend Botes Suspended
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry which concluded on 5 April 2006, Trainer Barend Botes was found guilty in terms of Rule 72.1.14 in that he used a cattle prodder which is capable of generating a high voltage pulse on certain horses trained by him.
The penalty imposed on Mr Botes was a suspension of his trainer's licence for a period of four months.In addition he was ordered to pay two thirds of the costs incurred by The National Horseracing Authority in regard to this Inquir
