But from a different point of view,

Any course should stand on its own, so kim should have 1500 horses and race 3 times a week because i believe there are enough poor horses to cater for it, what i dont agree with and why it should be closed is because its a false economy. 350 horses, feeding 200 people sounds pretty tight financially to me, that means corners are being cut and that is why it should be closed.

Lets look at some basic math based on stephs figures

350 horses = R 1 400 000
100 workriders @ R 1500 pcm R150000
Balance R 1 250 000
Food R 80 per horse per day R840 000
Balance R410 000
5 trainers ( dont know officially how many) rent and salary rent R 3000 pcm/ salary pcm R 5000 R40000
Balance R370 000
Vets R500 per horse pcm R175 000
Balance R 195 000


Now the figs i put here are i am sure conservative, as things stand right now based on my fogs there is R500 odd a month left over per horse but as i said the figs look conservative.


I feel one of the biggest changes needed in sa is that all trainer should charge R 10k a month minimum, this would sort out many problems.
Owners would no longer pay poor performing trainers R10 k
On R 10 k a month horses and grooms would be well looked after.

ok..so it was said tounge in cheek.....i agree...as long as there is form amonst a certain class..u still have to find the winner with a bit of studying..for some reason...i used to punt bloem a lot....especially when stanley greef raided and late trainer RILEY raided with his jock VILJOEN...some of the biggest coups were pulled off....when guys said to me why do u bet bloem...i told them bloem is stricktly for business....when zaki raided and warren....it wasnt the form...u just knew when u saw this trainer ,there ...it was business...same with kimberley...when paul peter raided there ....horse won by 15 lenghts or so...name escapes me...think the horse ran in the week in the vaal...even money...was money for jam,,....so i ask even money in kimberley...is the same as evn money in jhb...to the astute....u can still make money in kimberley

i punt on kimberly racing before cape and pe racing ,in fact i gave up pe racing over 5 years ago just found it impossible to win there..

I think i can speak for the majority of trainers and owners in kimb that everyone wants to operate in a enviroment conducive to making the whole of racing in kimb a thing for us all to enjoy by being negative about it will def not help as it is we are in a situation were everybody is looking at us and saying that all pple involved in racing in
kimb are bad which is the furthest from the truth the nhra will def have a inquiry bout this incident and to crucify everybody else arent gonna help at all raher put pressure on the powers in control to bring this case to an end so that we all can move forward and enjoy the game that we all love so much

it even gets to the point that if a jock is riding for 1 set...he wont even be considered for rides from the other set....is this the case

We all know that racing and punting is primarily about winning but sometimes it is about more than that. Oscar, Steph and us got so much pleasure from the fact that Hlamba is jumping on terms. Her placed runs are a bonus. We get so much pleasure seeing our homebred, produced babies getting onto the track as well balanced and well behaved horses....these small things are sometimes worth more than money.

@flash, racing in Kmb is not Steph Millers livelihood but her passion. Steph could easily be running a fashion boutique but she loves her horses and racing. Her staff wellbeing is a major factor in the yard. Some staff have been in the Millers employ for more than 20years.Also there is definitely a place in racing for the "Kimberley horses" whether they enjoy sand or are in lower merit ratings.

@racing Guru, there are 2 factions, 1 puts horses first and 1 puts winning at any cost first !!

I don't think the merits of racing at Kimberly should be on this thread, it is very much a separate issue. For the record, I enjoy Bingo when I believe everything is on the level. They may be of inferior ability than others but as a punter I care not, a maiden at Bingo is in many ways the same to me as the Met or the Durban July. And often a little easier to predict lol, depending on which stables have runners of course. Instead of knocking the place, I would be looking to build on what it has but imo in order for that to happen it has to be policed properly. I am not going to attack Cliffie Miller here because there are often two sides to every story and I doubt Cliffie will come on here to explain his. What I would say is that someone mentioned that one trainer should not police another, probably correct but from what I've read here, I'd be pretty happy if Steph had the job. It was said one trainer does not want to interfere or whatever in another stable but again, if I remember right, it was Steph who saw the horse was "in trouble" and called the vet. As I said before, enormous credit and respect to her and if all trainers were of the same mind and determination as Steph I am pretty sure Bingo would be all the better for it (tu)

Guru what sham racing have stated are the truth 2give u a little bit of how bad it became here the appie i use stated riding well i have a agreement that he rides for me whereever i have a horse nominated cum declarations i was told that he has another ride confirmed i took him of all my other horses got a call from him asking why i did it after xplaing to him why i did it he tells me that he have never been confirmed or contacted for that ride so somebody was lying to thhe operator in the end it resulted in me having to make a lot of calls to rectify that ithink it boils down to not respecting each other

I have stopped taking winning favourite stats the last few months but Kimberley was in 2nd place behind KZN AT THE TIME
