Hong Kong - Race 4 - 10.30 payout - Thanks

Hi all,

As a newly registered user, I thought a Thank you and a pat on the back for HollywoodBets - Springfield Durban was worthwhile mentioning.

Yesterday one of many small bets I placed was R200 on race 4 favourite - Hong Kong for a place at Tote Odds.
As it turned out it paid a wopping 10.30 - or so I thought.

After an hour of discussions with HollywoodBets desk staff, they insisted that I only be paid R346 / at a dismal 1.7. I was shown an email quoting Clause 2.14 of their T&C's. I reviewed this Clause 2.14 in their back office together with a staff member and later copied it off the internet, there did not appear to be any reason that the full amount should NOT be paid out. Note: HollywoodBets' site was not accessible later on for a long period too.

I emailed John Israel - HollywoodBets with all the details of my dilemma and also mentioned I enjoy the food and atmosphere at Hollywood and that if I had placed the R200 bet at a Tote I would have been paid out. After all, the results and odds were published as Official !

HollywoodBets called me mid-morning today to let me know that I could collect the balance of my R2060 winnings from their Springfield branch.

Just a question in closing - The (Tote) Place Pool was small at +/ R8000, if a Bookie only pays out at 1.7 rather than at 10.30, would they then pay more to ticket holders of the other 2 placed horses - Interesting thought ?

....if any bookie is prepared to pay on local tote odds then they should do so.....I do not understand how they came up with R1.70 though....was that not the odds on the Hong Kong tote.....:S

That might have been the fixed odds place?

.....so the bookies have an out.....something in the small print.....but by offering the open tote odds.....must take the medicine.....:

That's bull shit. So what if I happen to spot value on the tote, without manipulating, eg a 5/1 horse paying R10 on the tote for a place and I take it. Then they going to have this clause to protect them? To they offer to pay us more when we take places and then the payout is R1?
