How will the folks without e-tags and an internet connection be notified what they owe within 7 days - and how will the 'manual' billing process work - are they sending out accounts on a daily basis - or weekly or .....:S
Will they blackmail non-payers into paying at licence renewal time - if so I can imagine lots more people just saying 'stuff the licence' and just drive without one and bribe the Metro Police if they happen to be unlucly enough to be stopped
Also, how reliable are those cameras at the gantries - when there is a lot of rain around, how are they able to accurate identify a smaller vehicle covered by the spray of a big truck - not to even mention bikes :S

yeah sure! Never happen - How are you going to get a judge to let you impound a car for toll fees - Are there enough Sheriffs around to serve a notice for R2-86? How many people do you know that have had a sheriff visit them for not paying a TV License - This is a scheme to enrich a foreign company as we the SA people have more than paid for these roads in taxes

I am grateful that this foreign company has made my journey that much safer and quicker.Compared to other tenders you can take a drive and see for yourself potholes, roadworks washed away etc a few people have enriched themselves.
,As for the license issue, these debts are solid to debt collecting companies and they trace and recover outstanding monies..Small monies become viable when costs are added eg toll fees R2.86 x15%-interest +summons R51 +legal(lawyer) cost 380 so after a period it builds to a point were recovery will be viable!

With all due respect, I find your opinion very hard to follow - surely we pay taxes in this country and these taxes should be used amongst other things to build and maintain the roads - so the fact that we need a 'foreign country' to supply the finances for upgrading a few of the existing roads is already a blight on the government for either failing to collect the applicable taxes, or not using the applicable part of the monies collected to maintain the roads - but it seems they had more than enough money to pay for the 'security upgrades' at Nkandla
So imo the fact that the goverment went ahead to run up this huge mountain of debt without following the proper procedures (as many would argue) is their problem and they should not expect me to pay extra for this lunacy - as mentioned by Wayne Duvenage the other day, the first court case regarding non-payment is where the whole thing will fall down

Must also take into account jurisdictions.
If you drive from Roodepoort to Springs( N1, N12,N3,N12 ) you drive through four jurisdictions.
Roodepoort,Johannesburg,Germiston and Benoni.
Proceedings would have to be instituted out of each court having jurisdiction.
Will never work!

Guys Sanral will either outsource or sell the debts of the defaulters. So you will dealing with debt collectors and those people don't play. Good luck to those who are willing to take that risk.

If either Sanral or the 'debt collectors' send me account and can prove that I have received it, then I will pay - until then ....

That number is not for one day. I know the highway is wider now, but you need an extra 20 lanes to get 1000 000 cars a day ...
