WATCH MIKE DE KOCK ON "STABLE TALK" TOMORROW
11 years 6 months ago
Tuesday (10th December) morning's 12th and final episode of "Stable Talk", at 06h45, features a 20 minute interview with SA Champion trainer, Mike De Kock, whose entire Dubai Carnival contingent is now in the Emirates. The latest recruits from South Africa, including the likes of Vercingetorix, Variety Club, Heavy Metal and Blueridge Mountain, have been spending the past month at Mary Slack's magnificent Abington Place, in Newmarket.
We interviewed Mike about his current SA-based stars, like Espumanti and Whistle Stop, at Randjesfontein, also touching on the horses he will be campaigning in Dubai during the forthcoming Carnival, including new recruits like the former Ballydoyle-owned Mars. We then had the privilege of taking a jouney to view the set-up at Abington, courtesy of sponsors, Epol and Tellytrack, as well as the Slack family. There we interviewed Assistant Trainer, Steven Jell, and we give you a foretaste of the Abington property and briefly meet some of the SA stars mentioned, who all looked in fine fettle.
This week I will start editing a fullscale documentary on the Abington property, for presentation on "Winner's Circle", later this month.
Hopefully we will embark on a new series for Epol during the second half of 2014, though it may not adhere to quite the same format as "Stable Talk".
In the meantime my thanks to the 12 trainers who gave so willingly of their time for the first series, and who succeeded in picking out horses from their respective strings which have done us proud in subsequent races. They were, in order, Mike Azzie, Sean Tarry, Dennis Drier, Geoff Woodruff, Charles Laird, Duncan Howells, Joey Ramsden, Brett Crawford, Justin Snaith, Eric Sands, Yvette Bremner and Mike De Kock.
We are considering packaging the series for sale to racing fans, even though it is no longer topical, as far as the horses are concerned, but I have had many requests in this regard and I wonder if ABC members would have any interest? There's three hours worth of video footage to be watched and it might require two DVD's to cover all the interviews but we'll try to bring it in at an affordable price if there is sufficient interest.
