A good choice. His influence won matches and also improved the game of younger players around him. Nobody stood out at as frequently at Chelsea, Arsenal or United. The only other serious contender was probably Yaya Toure or maybe David Silva. They rarely look at defenders so players like Cahill and Zabaleta have no chance.

Agreed...I've posted before what a great great player I think he is but doesn't get the accolades due...can defend, score, pass, take free-kicks, drive a team forward with a surging run, etc, etc...most of the other players (Ronaldo, Messi, Suarez, etc) who get the plaudits lack seriously in the defensive aspect of the game...

He is the whole package...

And this praise comes from a Man Utd supporter...
