STRIKER SIDELINED
Legendary jockey Pieré Strydom is now in a race against time to be ready to take a ride in this year’s Vodacom Durban-July on the 7th July.
Strydom will be off till the middle of June as he will be risking serious injury if he returns to the saddle too soon after his fall at the Vaal last Thursday when a stirrup iron broke.
From the initial scans it wasn’t clear if Strydom picked up a new injury or if an old neck fracture showed up.
The jockey’s brother, PE trainer Jacques Strydom, confirmed that further scans indicated a fracture outside the vertebra and another fall could lead to a much more serious injury.
“Only from after middle June Striker will be taking rides again,” Jacques said.
