Sin Bin for the forum?

There are times when I read a posting and think to myself what was that all about? Often the offensive posts are a reaction to a previous posting and often in my opinion it is a heat of the moment thing. I am not innocent in this regard and have posted in haste when "taken on" by another forumite. This type of posting is not good for the forum, not good for the interaction between forumites, and adds credence to the opinion amongst many detractors of ABC that we are a bunch of hooligans. I understand that Bob and Dave play a God like role in deciding what is below the belt and should be removed. I also understand that a forum by its nature, will evoke emotions between opposing parties. I do not want to stifle healthy debate. What is necessary however is some type of ruling on personal attacks, particularly attacks that are accompanied by cussing and vulgarities. These are clearly "offside" and in my very humble opinion should NEVER be allowed. I get it that we do not want to lose contributors, but surely when we have posts where people use terms like "fuckface" and the like, then some type of sanction is called for? As a suggestion how about imposing a yellow card of sorts to transgressors? Give the guilty party a time period where no posting can occur. Similar to rugby. This will hopefully calm things down and lead to a more harmonious environment.

Ok. So its ok to insult, call someone drunk etc for taking offence to a post. But not the use of the word "fuckface" ? As long as no swearing, all is ok ? Then we won't be seen as hooligans ? But, then , won't we be seen as dumbfucks rather than as fuckfaces ?

Surely you must know the majority on ABC (myself included) has a huge respect for you, Louis

It is a pity that when two parties have a disagreement the whole forum get trashed
It is also the reason why most people that can contribute positively,won't join,and others just stay away or stop posting

Louis its not ok to insult I made that perfectly clear in my post. Your use of the word fuckface was used to illustrate the point that I make. It is by no means the only such example, it is however the freshest and was used as a point of reference.

Rob Faux was out of line saying what he did, but two wrongs do not make a right.

OTA I agree with your sentiments but in truth not the conclusion, Bob does a pretty decent job on that front imo in what must be a difficult position.

I agree with JCL, they are two people who have been clanners a long time, let them sort it out between themselves and hopefully it will all be water under the bridge soon enough.

There are times that I have started to post something not too dissimilar to what Louis said, feeling I was being provoked, slandered or whatever but have managed to delete it before posting and approached it differently. If, I had taken Rob's words seriously (which I did at least on first reading) then I am not sure in LG's shoes I would have held back. Of course two wrongs don't make a right but there are times I can see why it happens.

Hopefully they will resolve this and be back passionately disagreeing on many a subject again soon...

forums a lot better when its a free for all let it be at least they know who each other are in this case unlike the lot who have plenty to say but are yellow bellies

Englander I do think that the forum is controlled fairly well and do not for an instant believe that either Bob or Dave deserve criticism. What needs to be acknowledged is the fact that personal attacks and insults do not have a place on any forum and these need to be addressed. Passionate disagreements, what a pleasure. Insulting one another not at all.

Guys there is a "report to a moderator button" under all posts

Dave, have been called Englander by a few South Africans when out there so I doubt the name has much to do with it. Perhaps more jealously of my sparkling wit and second to none horse selections? Ah yes, that must be it... lmao
