Someone please help me understand...
10 years 6 months ago - 10 years 6 months ago
I believe this is a forum where we are here, at least in part, to help each other
And I need something explained to me cos my limited brain power just doesn't get it.
It centres around two horses, Tinchy Strider and Dream Galaxy, though I have come across similar scenarios before.
Two runs back TS finished with something of a rattle and somewhat cosily beat DG by 0.25l. TS was returning from another lengthy break but had previously competed against much stronger. It cost me a fair chunk of money but, ok, I can accept the horse's problems have been sorted and he is ready to go again. If at their best then, based on the earlier form, TS is the better horse and has just unfortunately for me chosen now to bounce back to form I tell myself. So, go have a vodka or eight, curse a few times, cry a little and get over it lol. Which I did!
So yesterday, TS is somewhat one-paced and finishes a few lengths behind the staying on nicely DG. I believe DG was only 1kg better off. Same distance. Different course but TS has had much more experience dealing with bends than DG.
Now, please don't tell me one was an amateur rider race and yesterday DG had Striker up. I know that
but that can't fully explain the turnaround in form, can it??? lol Not only that but the market was very negative about TS.
So, if anyone out there could take the time to help me understand why there was this turnaround in form and even more significantly, why the market reflected that it was so unlikely the form of their previous meeting would be confirmed, I would greatly appreciate it. Please note, I am not moaning about the result, the market told me that it was likely, I just don't understand it...

Dream Galaxy should have beaten Tynchy Strider on their first meeting imo so imo was very well in, the Jock is not the strongest and rode it very softly remember telling Mr H to book mark the replay
Doesnt answer your question though
here is a guide to the merit rating system, that also wont answer your question though lol www.nhra.co.za/pubs/docs/handicapping/Ha...pping_Guidelines.pdf
ps i know you said not to mention jocks, but strydom is definaetely worth a Length or two in some races ,no disrospect to the jock on TS but he couldnt live with him in a race when it comes to ability

lol you deleted a post Bob? (checked and think it was just the 1kg)
Bob, thanks. That is all about the jockeys though lol. I was big on DG in their first meeting and had it in a patent where the other two won, I didn't blame the jock on the day so I think you might be being a tad harsh, though I am no great authority on jocks as I have said before. That is a big "blame" on the jock though Bob especially when you consider that TS was returning from such a long lay off, I have watched it again and still don't attach huge blame to him. How should he have ridden it differently then in that first meeting, gone a lot sooner?

Ok. You are saying that despite the fact TS has competed and been competitive in MR90 plus handicaps and DG only around MR70s, that DG is on the rise and is the better horse and the appie who rode DG that day should never be given another ride? (Though he did me a (half a) favour on Cohiba later in the day
)
