The American`s have caught on ,hopefully Phumelela can

quote from the article

".Additionally, Breeders' Cup Ltd, Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton Co., The Jockey Club and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association have indicated support and are lending expertise on organizing committees, said Price Bell. The project will aim to cultivate fans for the sport of racing by allowing the public access to farms and many of the sport's biggest stars on a regular basis. "At our core, we're trying to share the beauty of the Thoroughbred, which is what inspires us every day," he explained. "We're all in this industry because of the horse, and for us, we feel that we can capture the best story of the horse"

Give Phumelela some credit, the overall business is well run and continue to outperform expectations despite the local racing operation running at a loss.

This area of the business can do with a new injection of fans and a good social offering to support the "Racing, It's a Rush" social outreach.

Racing is still alive and well, only the product mix and thinking requires new direction to turn the tide and create some long overdue momentum. This can change even if it might mean hurting a few feelings and stepping on some tired toes along the way.

Have to disagree with the post "Hit em hard". The article and the spirit behind it is intended to cultivate an appreciation for the horses in themselves. Not as a important component in betting. Precisely the opposite of what your post was getting at. The more people love horses for themselves and not as a means to make a buck or two [ or not ], the better will be the health of racing in the long run.

The irony is that most South African trainers and breeders are only too happy to show people around if we ask.

as discussed on ABC about a year ago, there are different levels in the market, all equally important, and all needing service delivery. But certain fundamentals to get right first.
If we all hold hands, it will happen.

Love what is happening with the Frankel filly on Avontuur Stud. :)
And big gun runners such as Louis The King, Legislate and Futura - they have a fan following.

Hi Don

Love what you are doing from your side to expose people to racing but on the other side we are working on a new angle that could create some very interesting alternative opportunities to market racing in future.

Creating fans will get new meaning when racing is offered as a sport to players, not just for jockeys and trainers.
