According to their fan clubs, the 70+% of mounts he and Marcus don't win on are due to the inability of the horse rather than any error on their part...

LOL, one eyes king in a blind man's world. More than half the punters I see have lost their homes, cars, family, pride, self-respect but to mention a few and still to this day they sit in the same bookmaker sweating bullets trying to lecture me on how good strydom is... I agree he is a great jockey but in all honesty gents he's only good to 90% of the people when he wins with your money down, same goes for any other jock or any form of gambling.
There are die hard fans out there but I can guarantee none of them are millionaires.

How can a Jockey's ability be metered by the amount of money won or lost on him?
The man is a master of his trade with 5000 winners + in his career to prove it,
Those who enjoy and appreciate horse racing for the spectacle that it is will be unanimous in his praise while those who look at it only as means to have a bet will be sure to point out rides where he never won that cost them money and deem them to be bad rides, with my punters cap on I can say with absolute certainty that he has cost me money far more often by getting up to beat my horse than any so called "bad ride" when I have backed him.
If one looks at his record for what it is there can only be one conclusion..the man is a genius..

10 years 3 months ago - 10 years 3 months agoWP how many people are out there that became millionaires through punting?? 'cept maybe a few that started off punting when they were multi millionaires...Winning_Post wrote: There are die hard fans out there but I can guarantee none of them are millionaires.
Owning race horses and punting race horses have one common denominator, 99,9% of the time you will end up out of pocket..
Blame the Jocks, The Trainers, The Authorities if you will but at the end of the day the Punter/Owner is the one who decides which horse to back/buy how much to invest and when to stop...

Titch no denying his record, undoubtedly the best Jockey SA has ever seen, and for the spectacle of racing I agree he has added a massive contribution to racing in this country.
Not many have become rich by punting. My point was that the die hard fans have become poorer much faster backing Strydom all the time, for that very reason punters have remained loyal because the they are guided by misconception that everyday will be his day, similar to the gambler at the roulette table backing his/her favorite number each and every spin.
I punt horses (not jockeys) because a. I love the game, win or lose... I accept equally. Luckily my selections have worked for me and I have turned massive profits in racing, through choice!
If a punter were turning a loss 99,9% of the time, then a punter (not you) are either a. Very rich and enjoys wasting money or b. Very stupid.
I agree a jockeys ability cannot be metered by the amount of money won or lost, but inevitably given enough time and winners, any jockey will merit respect and praise, it goes without saying in any industry.
I furthermore agree that it is entirely the punters/owners etc... choice on how and when to punt, how much to spend and which horses to back, and ultimately when to call it a day in defeat or victory. The industry exists for the choices mentioned previously and for the very reason that human nature will prevail over choice, not trying to to be phyliosophical but let's be honest we all want more. Ask any punter why he/she backed a horse and they will always give you a reason, jock, form etc... etc... And then tell me how many punters tell you it's just because that was the horse they chose, no reason... Will probably be somewhere near zero!
To close off I will add that Strydom is a master of his trade and concede that he is a genius! Not for the punter but for the passion of horse racing.
