What's wrong with taking early prices? I love taking early prices. My bet certaily does not mess the market for others.

Everyone is going on about the bookies back in the day laying XYZ. but we people forget that there was no internet back in the good old days, there were no cellphones, no Mobile Web. People could get big bets on because the information wasn't traveling as fast..

Now a days we can sit in the comfort of our own lazyboy and take bets on ten different sites with our Tablet or Laptop. I've heard stories of Punters getting their mates and going to a a franchise Bettingshop and all taking R25K of a Horse because they all have cellphones to communicate, imagine that R25k of one horse from 5 different people. These people are just protecting their interest.

From my days as working as a runner I remember every punter that come in that shop wanted to clean out the Bookie. if all the bookies where cleaned out and closed up shop we'd have nothing to bitch about on here :silly:

there is nothing wrong with it, but early bets create early liabilities( when the markets are at their weakest) and some guys have no patience and what the lot when there is not a lot to have...

Just a quick story on how to get around the local bookies.

A few years ago I had a first timer going at the Vaal. Despite being a 2 year old against older horses at level weights going on sand the books opened up 3/1 third favourite. Needless to say I was bombarded at the race course on his potential ability. Saying very little and placing no bets he promptly drifted to 10/1 only to be returned 7/1 after he duly did the business.

In the meantime no2son was busy in the UK getting at least R 10k on at 7/1 and 10/1.

Was the 3/1 offered for an early claim reasonable? I will let you make up your own mind.

There is no doubt that its a war out there between bookmakers and punters. The claim system is outdated and needs to move towards a "supply and demand" model as stated by others.

BUT have no doubt the UK and its MEGA bookmaking firms are no different. DTF hs been complaining for years about getting on.

I struggled to get on and to a point still do.

I sat in a meeting with the head of Sportingbet Elite client's and he was stating how they were pro actively looking for clients of a certain size. When i asked him about backing horses the night before he said "i can arrange for you to win up to £1500" but anything over that we don't need the business.

For a football bet 1 x 2 he was happy to risk £250 000 (seriously)

I don't think its the amount that bugs them, i also don't think its the winners or losers that bug them

I think its a EGO thing and its the traders that DONT like to be caught laying 6/1 about a 3/1 shot. They don't like to be behind on price, that for me is the key indicator with these clowns.

So we struggle onwards, we devise new ways of getting on. We use other peoples names.

It can be done, getting £5000 on a horse at 5/1 can be done but it requires 3 or 4 people and 5 or 10 accounts. It becomes a full time job but its a job i am enjoying much more than my previous work.

Nothing beats watching racing all day and trying to get on 6-10 horses a week.

The internet has made it both easier and harder, if you box smartly YOU CAN get on.

If (HUGE IF) you want to get on a 33/1 shot and you want to get £10 000 on you have MORE chance of doing this 10 minutes before the race than 10 hours before.

If people (me included) could bide our time then we could get more on, the problem is most times too many people know the price is wrong so we try and "outsmart" each other by getting on early when all we doing is MARKING the bookies card...

they are all spineless accountants..
I mean,take last night for example.I tried to have £50 on Ireland to draw with Poland at 9/2 at about the 75th minute.Unibet offered me £4-65
Tried to have £80 on Nemanja Matic to get carded in the Portugal v Serbia game at 5/2,was offered £1-61.
One bet was in -running and the other a not very popular market,why the fark wouldn't you lay an in running bet to lose a poxy £225.
These little farkers that sit at the trading desks remind me of a mixture of Hitler and Ebeneezer Scrooge.
I cant find ONE bookmaker that doesn't restrict bets if you have any angle,also cant find one that will restrict the poor bastards that throw all there living into a Fixed Odds Betting Terminal.

Sometimes you have to be creative to get £1000 on a horse BUT it can be done....

Betfred wont let me have £2 on an early price but £100000 on their totepool

one has a risk for them the other doesnt (you can guess which one )

one has a benefit for the punter the other doesnt (guess which one )
