GREYVILLE RAINING
17 years 1 month ago
This is written in my private capacity.
The weatherman appears to have been spot-on with his long term prediction as the rain is coming down at Greyville, accompanied by howling winds.
I have received a couple of calls questioning Gold Circle's decision to abandon tonight's hastily sheduled meeting. As you probably know the meeting was scheduled following the loss of Sunday's Scottsville meet.
It is really a damned if you do and damned if you don't call to make and please rest assured that every consideration is given to all factors - including the irresponsibilty of damaging the track on the eve of the important season and the consideration of ensuring that lead-up races to the big features are scheduled and accomodated. An additional meeting has now been carded for 16 May.
Thankfully the outlook for Saturday is a bit brighter so hopefully things will be back on track soon.
And believe me - we love racing here in KZN!
Regards
Lance

Maybe I missed something. Why move a Pmb meeting to Dbn with a bad forecast instead of rescheduling at the course of origin, which raced successfully on Wed anyway and was more likely, therefore,to race on Thursday?

National Fixture Policy dictates that we cannot go head on with a Phumelela meeting - ie Vaal today. So only opton was night at Greyville.

Ah ha,racing management logic. Perhaps they will have noticed that UK deliberately run Turf meetings in parallel to all weather racing!
Seldom, therefore, is there no racing, sending punters into casinos or to poker tables.
They seem to understand that it is not sound policy to drive your customers to the opposition!
More all weather racing is needed, and run as a back up to normal racing,as abandoned meetings, leaving no racing at all, has become too regular.
Please don't be fooled that UK racing is an acceptable alternative. Lack of form or data makes it nothing more than animated roulette.
