......judging from the prices paid at the smaller CTS 2yr old sale this past weekend.....where the average price per horse was R59K AND IN MVHO had some classy sorts in the making on offer and on the whole a far better than what is on offer from the bigger TBA/BSA sale at the end of this week....It is going to be a bloodbath for breeders.....a definite buyers market.....

BLOODSTOCK SOUTH AFRICA – NEW RACES FOR THE STAKES INCENTIVE SCHEME AND UPDATE ON READY TO RUN SALE
BSA are pleased to advise that we will be having two associated Sales races in 2016 for the 2013 crop of yearlings (horses sold during 2015).
These two races will have a stake of R1 million each and run over distances of 1200m and 1600m.
All 2013 foals (horses sold during 2015) that ticked the box for our Added Value Stakes Incentive will be eligible for the two R 1million races.
The 2015 National Two Year OId Sale will be a further chance to secure a chance of entering these two races.
Bloodstock South Africa regret to advise that we have had to cancel our 2015 Ready to Run Sale, due to lack of support from vendors.
However, instead we will be holding a Horses in training sale at our TBA Complex, Gosforth Park on the 1st November, 2015.
This sale will also be open to two year olds who would also qualify for the two R1 million races.
Entry forms for this sale will be available during the next week.
Please direct all enquiries to Kevin Woolward on kevin@tba.co.za.
Kind regards,
Bloodstock SA’

......close to 26% of the 231 lots sold went for less than R30Kper lot....and a further 34% R30K+ but below 70K.....only 16 lots sold for R200k and above which was only 7% of total lots.....

We are experiencing buyer's fatigue- too many sales too close together. There is money for the decent horses, but the middle market has dwindled due to the increasing gap between rising costs of ownership and stagnant stakes. Although there has been a shakeout amongst smaller breeders and owner/ breeders, overproduction of moderate horses continues.
We continue to pour too great a percentage of the limited stakes pot into low MR races. The operators believe that full fields of rubbish is good for turnover. This may be true in the short term, but long term it leads to boring racing where form study is not rewarded, and punters become disillusioned.
From a breeding perspective, weak horses that would previously have been retired after a season or two, are kept in training. Buyers therefor do not refresh their stock as often.
Two year olds that win early are smashed by the handicappers who don't understand the
difference between ability and precocity. There are too few Novice and Graduation races, so inadequate reward for selecting a nice horse over a weak horse. Your MR 68 5yo gelding can easily earn more than your MR 85 3yo!.

What a great sale for buyers ......amazing
we walked away with 5 horses with outlay of 50k in total heeeeeeehaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that is value for money :woohoo:
great to have BigNic back in the stable and to have mr Hawkins as partner in the most expensive one of the 5 that only cost us 30k
had an amazing great time after the sales and thanks to all the great people i met and caught up with.
this was the right sale for the bigboys that normally spend 500k average, you could get same quality or even better for less than a 3rd of the price.
best value for money sale for me handsdown
only bad taste i have is from 2 Natal breeders that didnt even let me look at horses that was not sold on sale......or was just plain ridiculous with prices after the sale on horses that didnt even get a bid..... they will never see my money in future sales.

Re: NATIONAL 2yo sale

My stable of the opinion that there were a lot of cheapie buys in the 10 - 20 Grand range. Either they were not fashionably bred or did not have great conformation or a combination of both.
Now these types of horses might be great for the minor centres of Kimberly or Zimbabwe but not all of us owners want to race there.
Then there were some great specimens that went for R 200 grand and above which is out of the small owners league.
So that left the Middle range & according to my stable, this left many buyers chasing these few " good " horses in the middle range which resulted in these middle range horses selling for " more " than they would have normally. Hence no horse for Frodo & I. One horse I'm sorry we did not get was POTS OF MONEY...will be watching this ones future with interest.

.....that Judpot was a steal at R65K....I liked it too....not too late to contact Justin Vermaak and get in on it....what use is it bidding up against a horse that is going to be syndicated... your share for a buy in just becomes bigger....
