Time spent at start

A question ,probably for a jock who has ridden internationally........................It seems that our horses spend much more time circling around and around,at the start, than they do overseas .................is that just an illusion or is there a reason?

Rob I have asked the question many times before and never got a reply and it's a fact we go to the start about 15 mins before the off and in the UK they basically go down then go behind and off in no more than 5 mins

I think its for punters to have time to get their bets on after they have seen the canter past ..I agree though that's its no good for the horses to mill around at the start as they get worked up especially under lights...

Colinp, do you think your response was appropriate at all? In the middle of a post about time before the horses are loaded, you post about a horse of Rahilly at 50/1? I do notice your reply was at 1am or so this morning. That probably has a lot to do with it! I think it was a good question. Pirates is right. Most of the money comes on late. Possibly a better option is where they ring in front of the pens and go in behind and straight in.
