DOES PACE MAKE THE POLY RACE
9 years 7 months ago
Many horseracing analysts and writers believe that in non-turf races pace makes the race, and that pace figures/analysis is more meaningful than other types of form study.
So what about our own Poly tracks?
Poly race profiles (winner characteristics etc) are certainly different from our experience of turf racing, and also from Vaal and Kimberly sand…form between the later two tracks was certainly not interchangeable.
We are unlikely to know until reliable sectional timing is implemented here in SA.
Whilst Computaform results (with estimated ‘sectional’ times) facilitate some pace analysis possibilities, and final race times provide a basis for speed rating figures, there is, in this technical age, a need for more reliable accurate information.
It looks like we will have to ‘cut our teeth’ with the ‘sophisticated’ information that is available from racetracks such as Singapore’s Kranji…for a loyalist this goes against the grain ( besides the amount of ‘study’ needed for familiarisation).
Anyone else out there had any ‘hands on’ experience with Velocity or Energy Ratings, Pace figures and Race profiles etc?

Pace makes any race, form starts going out the window when jocks dont go a true gallop

Absolutely.
Do wonder though if there tends to be less of a crawl then sprint on poly though?
Psychologically jocks may treat it more like the sand ? Will be interesting when the long awaited sectionals are available.
