Racing. It's a Rush: PRESS RELEASE
Subject: ATTEND THIS YEAR’S CAPE TOWN PRAWN FESTIVAL AND WIN FANTASTIC
PRIZES!
Date: 15 FEBRUARY 2016
The Cape Summer Of Champions Season 2015/2016 has seen some ground breaking
and well received changes and the hugely successful festival of racing will
close in grand style on Saturday, 20 February with the much anticipated
Cape Town Prawn Festival at Kenilworth Racecourse.
The race meeting includes two Gr 3 events, the Vasco Prix du Cap and the
CTS Chairman’s Cup, so there will be good racing to watch, but it is also a
family fun day out with plenty of on course entertainment and of course
tons of prawns at bargain prices.
The Prix du Cap’s sponsor is Vasco Da Gama, a popular pub in Green Point
frequented by sportsmen, sportswomen and sports fans, who enjoy the
friendly and festive vibe as well as the superb variety of Portuguese style
food on offer. It is very much a horseracing friendly pub, being owned by
one of Cape Town’s most passionate racing owners, Bryn Ressell. Vasco have
been involved in racing sponsorship before and bring their special vibe to
the racecourse.
Cape Thoroughbred Sales (CTS) have brought plenty of excitement to Cape
racing, firstly through their innovative inner city Premier Yearling Sale
and latterly through the lucrative Sales Races they have put on, which
included January’s CTS Million Dollar, by far the richest race in South
African history. CTS have expanded and also stage sales in Johannesburg.
Racegoers on Saturday will be able to enjoy succulent prawns for only
R149.00 which includes a kilogram of prawns, chips or rice and a choice of
peri-peri, lemon butter or garlic butter sauces. This family fun day will
not only include live entertainment, but racegoers on the day can stand a
chance to win appliance giveaways to the value of R50 000.00 which includes
a grand prize for one lucky racegoer of appliances to the value of R20
000.00. Winners will be drawn throughout the day in the winner’s circle and
prize winners will need to be present in order to claim prizes, as well as
have a valid ID or driver’s licence*.
Gates open at 11H00 and entrance is free. Bring the whole family and let
the children enjoy a host of kid’s entertainment, there will be jumping
castles, which includes a four meter climbing wall, a pirate ship, a junior
obstacle course and rainbow slide to cater for all age groups.
Sand art will be available at a nominal fee of R25 a card. There will be
ice cream on sale and the most amazing performers will keep the kids
entertained, from juggling artists to soccer performance artists.
The Somerset Room is offering patrons a delicious seafood extravaganza
lunch which includes a bottle of white wine per couple, for only R350 per
person. Watch thrilling horseracing on the day, from the comfort of this
wonderful venue

Last year it took 9 draws for the main prize to be won as the box had been stuffed by so many repeat entrants that the previous 8 names drawn had already won prizes, very embarrassing and happens every year. The line for prawns is also hours long with people pushing in constantly (every year they say they've improved to service but they never do with the age old quote 'we didn't expect so many people to attend').
It's the polar opposite to the Queens Plate and I would rather commute from Cape Town to Flamingo Park via Somalia on a unicycle with a flat tyre to watch a race day there than attend this event again.

Why no queuing system where you get a number and go up when your number shows on a screen?
Surely,if this is to continue to be an annual event at least the things that most irritate people and consequently might scupper them returning, should be sorted out?
