JOSEPH O'BRIEN will not race-ride in 2016 and his career as a jockey looks over as he revealed to the Racing Post on Monday he has decided to concentrate on his new role as a trainer.

The two-time Irish champion jockey, who in 2013 broke the record for winners in an Irish Flat season, does not turn 23 until May but he has accepted that his future revolves around training horses rather than riding them and wants to donate not just some but all of his time, energy and expertise into the next chapter of his career.

O'Brien jnr is set to acquire his own training licence next month and has been looking after a string of more than 70 horses, including JCB Triumph Hurdle favourite Ivanovich Gorbatov, on Owning Hill outside Piltown, County Kilkenny, for the past year.

"It's hard enough to make a decent job of one thing never mind trying to juggle two things so I'll be concentrating on training and won't be riding any more," O'Brien said.
