E.g.. if it is a rule that a bet must yield R1000 and the price is 5/10 then the player must bet R2000. Likewise, if the price is 100/1 then the player must bet R10. This mitigates those players unscrupulously betting R100 on big outsiders to just scoop the pool in one punt.
Surely this is how betting works - if you find that outsider on the day (unscrupulously or not), you show a profit ...and the competition reflects the real world ...yes you need a bit of luck, but that is the case in many sports (bounce of the ball, etc.) on any given day?
And to CM, I'll be sure to follow your formula in trying to find the July winner

100% correct Frodo...finding the lurker is also a skill... and that is what is required in these competitions as shown in the last competition. Dave had 7 out of 10 winners and finished 5th... just blindly selecting favourites is not a skill (Apologies Dave   )

And nor is blindly selecting outsiders but your points are taken.

Mac, in every race there are more outsiders than favourites (favourites I am loosely terming 6/1 or less)... Deciding which of the remaining has a chance of upsetting the applecart does take some effort and application.
