Punters left gasping at Moe on Monday
Darryl Sherer - 17 May 2016
Punters that backed Letter From Paris at Moe on Monday found another way to do their cash cold.

Letter From Paris dislodged her tongue-tie after being loaded for the Benchmark 58 handicap over 1216 metres. However with just one horse left to load, and with the tongue-tie on the ground at the feet of the mare and no substitute tongue-tie at the barriers, the starter decided for safety reasons to start the race without re-applying a tongue tie.
Trained by Mitchell Beer and Max Hinton, Letter From Paris ($10) raced keenly in the early stages before finishing tailed off last, jockey Ibrahim Gundogdu reporting the mare choked down.

SURELY someone at the barriers carries a piece of panty hose or rubber to reapply should the original becomes dislodged!!! You have only got to tie the panty hose under the bit but over the tongue and then tie underneath, my 10 yr old daughter could apply one!!! MORE bloody MADNESS!!!

Should it have been called a non-runner?

First I've heard of this but if that was the case surely in fairness to all the horse should've been scratched.

Jockey's alcohol suspension overturned
AAP - 13 May 2016
Jumps jockey Paul Hamblin has had a charge and suspension for testing over the allowed alcohol limit set aside by stewards.
Drink responsibly. Paul Hamblin had an alcohol related suspension overturned.
Racing Victoria is reviewing its arrangements with its alcohol testing service provider after wrong information was provided to stewards during an inquiry at Warrnambool last week.
Hamblin and Damien Oliver were suspended after failing breath tests on the final day of the three-day carnival.
After a first test of 0.033, Hamblin's second reading 15 minutes later was 0.022 and the service provider informed stewards that a 0.005 per cent of uncertainty had been incorporated into the figure.
However a review of the testing device it was found the uncertainty had not been calibrated and Hamblin's second reading should have been 0.017, under the permitted 0.02 limit.
Oliver's second reading of 0.035 would have come down to 0.03, but it was still above the limit and his suspension stands.
"We are extremely disappointed that the testing and reporting was not carried out as required, despite repeated assurances from the third party service provider that the measurement of uncertainty was taken into account," chief steward Terry Bailey said in a statement.

I think Hamblin has reason to be pretty dirty about the whole deal. His reading was far lower than Olivers yet initially he copped a longer suspension- and a jumps jockey has a far shorter window of opportunity to make money than a top flat jockey. Oliver could have had opportunities in richer races but for Hamblin it was probably a bigger percentage at risk of his total earnings. Now he has cleared, the horse had to be scratched and the connections and Hamblin himself had no chance of getting a win.
