Loosing our TOP JOCK'S is nothing new

For those of you who are old enough, you may recall about 15 odd years ago we ' lost ' a good number of our TOP jocks all at about the same time.

remember Muis Roberts, Basil Marcus, Felix Coetzee, Bartie Leisher, Dougie Whyte all left our shores at about the same time.

Young jocks then like Striker Strydom ( from P.E. ) were unheard of. it only takes a couple of years before some ' new ' names hit the scene big time.
Mark Khan was riding in Cape Town mainly, before he relocated to Joburg & made a name for himself - bigtime.

Although we will miss the riding talent of Lloyd, Cormack & Schofield others will come through the ranks in time.

This is now the opportunity for the younger jocks to make a name for themselves with more riding opportunities. To me it looks like Delpech & Hill will clean up in Natal - for the immediate future.

who will become stable jock for Drier ? one of the biggest yards in Durban.

D.D. could be one to look out for, & Brandon Lerena. Pity we've lost Keegan Lathan for now.

we must be gratefull that Anthony Delpech has come back - he is world class.

Bigger problem. No apprentices coming thru.Afew years ago in their wisdom an equestrian school was started. In moved a number of young ladies 18 to 20 years old.Mixed with a bunch of guys 16 to 18 . Oil and water!!!
Then affirmative action and now we have no prospects for the next two years.
Remember Coetzee,Whyte,Lerena's all sons of jockeys or related. I think David and Habib also related but not sure about this.
Most girls fail Goslett, jury still out?
Discipline not what it was in the past?

I believe that When Weiho's stable starts firing again, which I believe could happen shortly, you will se Jessica winning a lot more. The ride on Lake with Swans is just a start. I thought she rode a god race on that one and there definitely will be more to come.

Hope Nikki Welch makes a comeback, she has been off after 2 ops, her strike rate was pretty good. She has a good seat, nice balanced rider.

Hi Frodo, my hope is that Nicci will be back riding by end Oct / Nov but this assumption is not cast in stone.
