Commentary Race 4 Kenilworth

Now I have heard and seen it all.
The gates crash open and even Stevie Wonder B) could see that something went amiss with Cloth Of Cloud at the start.
Not once was there a mention, by the commentator, that the horse had suffered a mishap, and was 50 lengths behind the last horse.
After the race, a mere mention that there was a race review into the start. Again, no mention of Cloth Of Cloud being involved. Seconds later, no further action.
I did not have a bet, but there was a R9 million pick 6 pool, and information on the second favourite should have been imparted.
Anyway, who cares? That is going to be the attitude.
Just my humble opinion.

I can sympathise with the caller, its a tough job and mistakes happen. What I can't sympathise with is the standard of broadcast coverage in general.

We have probably the best day's racing ever in South Africa with huge prize money and high quality thoroughbreds. To call the broadcast coverage amateur would be an insult to amateurs.

This is not a one off, it is happening week in and week out, clueless presenters reading from Computaform and notes scribbled on the back of cigarette packets. The director switching camera angles at exactly the wrong moment and a general lack of empathy for the sport and what the viewing public want to see.

Jockey's are being flown in from overseas at considerable expense, can't we please import some expertise to bring the broadcast coverage up to a standard commensurate with the quality of the racehorse talent on view.

In total agreement. You should forward this post to Robert Garner. robertg@phumelela.com

I feel the entire raceday package was pretty average. The racing itself was high quality though...

Alot of shine was taken off by the many racemeetings that were on the go from the various centers. Less is more...

J&B Met should be a stand-alone meet and the main focus for the day. End of...

Have to agree with G Mac 100 %. Some of the race callers leave a lot to be desired even if it is a hard job.

Try been a race caller. Mute the race then call it and record yourself. Play back the with your commentary and see how you go. A disaster it will be first few times up. Keep on doing it and within 3 months you will be able to call a race. Just concentrate on one course and regular colours and runners will start appearing and you will also learn which horses run in the front etc etc. If you have a squeaky or rough voice then forget it. It has to be audible.

Maybe TT could have a comp for their next race caller. Winner gets a year contract.

Less races, less 25% takeouts. Winning wagers needs to be recycled....

....easy in theory....but would have hated to be at a betting facility constantly standing in a queue just to get on......I was battling to keep up planted on my sofa in front of the laptop and TV....still did not get on or rushed some bets and made a few mistakes.....

.....absolute madness for GC to squeeze a meeting in on that day..... :S

Thought I was the only one feeling like this. One race they had a split screen on and the focus was more on chariot racing from Aus with a Win pool of R300 but neglecting the canter past at Kenilworth on a day like Saturday with massive pools....that's genius right there!!!
