Great jock and a master tactician, proved it once again with LOTH, made sure gestured the horse to run diagonally into gimme six path, brilliantly done and fooled everyone.

I think it was completely misleading - last time for me to ever read his column again.

you are not going to get many responses re your post as the blokes on here hero worship him and that other rider from Durban. You say that you are new to the game so best is to pick what you like, dont rely on newspaper columns or when you hear people say "i heard a whisper" ffs if it was a whisper then nobody would hear it or when people tell you that "this cant get beaten etc etc" Follow a stable or two for small stakes and also one or two jockeys. If you believe that you are going to make tons of money in a short space of time then go and make a record or go to Hollywood and hope to be spotted. Whatever you do dont let horse racing become an addiction. Spend what you can afford to lose. Enjoy yourself and dont make it and make or break affair. If i had my time over i would never have had a bet in the first place. Fortunately i know when to draw a line and can go weeks without having a bet (unless Ziets horses are running at Flamingo)

Striker is always over analysing every race and finding reasons his mount can't or shouldn't win.

The prices of both horses indicate their chances - I don't in any way think PS tried to mislead the public - His form study was accurate BUT what he often forgets is that his ability often negates things like a bad draw and a few lengths to find - Not many jocks would have won on that filly so those of us that brassed her on form(including PS) forgot how talented he is.

I agree with you Mr H, but believe most jockeys are talented with 6,7,8,10/1 shots
I also believe almost all of them are crap with odds ons :cheer:

If you a newbie you have to learn the ropes. I am still learning everyday. The dam of Lady Of The House, Overarching was a multiple Grade 1 winner who also beat the colts and was bred in America. Lady Of The House prior run was behind Crowd Pleaser and Edict Of Nantes who are both colts and although was in receipt of weight in that race showed shes not too bad of the colts.

Then on Sunday the Becks who also owned Overarching had Bonnie Prince running in their sons name. The grandam of Bonnie Prince, Humble Eight also produced the sire Stage Call.

I Do not think that one can hold a jockey, a top jockey and a punters favourite like striker accountable for what he thought of his mounts chances for the day. Firstly what is said before a race and what happens during a race even the jockeys can not predict... Secondly a trainer like Crawford is in top form at the moment, any horse he runs at the moment and going forward you will get a 100% effort regardless of the odds,,,,go and check the results of the past few races. So a jockey that rides crawford's horses will have a fit horse to ride with a very good winning chance...

PS based his comments on about as much info as any other pundit. The tendency is naturally to downplay a horses chances if they appear limited, as a worse than expected outcome won't reflect badly on the Jockey, whereas a better than expected outcome paints the Jockey in a good light...human nature.
So ..unless it's a credible stable jockey, who regularly rides work on a particular horse treat jockey comments with a pinch of salt.

In Pierre's case on the weekend I think it was a return to form for Captain Splendid ( which the trainer was questioned by the stipes on) , and a case of a great ride on a horse that benefitted from PS ' s great balance rather than vigourous riding.

.....but then Stage Call was a failure at stud here.....but will not write off the dam line.....BTW Bonnie Prince is also a fav of mine because of the ped picture.....but getting back to Overarching who has a classic stayers genetic ped picture but did not seem to need more ground and was quite speedy.....her win in the Hawaii Stakes of 2006 was classic in beating 2 GR1 winning males in National Spirit and the highly vaunted Nhlavini also a prior Hawaii Stakes winner.... ;)....pity that the big money boys will now continue to throw big money at her progeny because she is going to continue to throw some better horses....
