Woolavington - Gimme Six 3/1, Epona 7/1

Gimme Six was a little behind the best in the Cape but now has become one of the best here in KZN. Put the field to sleep in a matter of strides in the Guineas. Concern must be the distance...hoping for a slow run race which will suit her turn of foot. But she has a good draw to assist and loves Greyville. if she stays, she must have an excellent chance.

Look at Epona's record over 2000m. Still unbeaten. Will love every inch of the trip, wide-ish draw but Marcus is good at getting them over. Good turn of foot and she should get close if she's not too far off them turning for home.

Have to mention Orchid Island as well. Top filly and if she's recovered from that Oaks run she'll give them a go too. Cracking race in store.

Daily News - Edict of Nantes 3/1, Horizon 6/1

I'm not as strong on EoN as when he won the Derby but he's got a fair chance here on best form. This is a much stronger field of course and it's a good test of how good he is. But he's a top horse, Lovely prep LTO and Crawford seems bullish.

Horizon seems an enigma at times. Ran a great pipe opener when beating Zodiac Ruler but then ran a very flat race LTO. I can forgive him on that I think he's much better over further. Aldo needs to get him in the race much earlier here to be involved in the finish. I think he'll be a lot better if gelded but doubt that will happen. Now 3rd run after rest so he should be at his peak.

Speed ratings for main contenders in some of the poly races

Race 2
96…Go with Flow
92…Storm Kitten
91…Royal Kaitrina
90…Aznerak

Go with Flo has shown improvement in each of her last 4 starts since being fitted with blinkers. She has also shown her versatility with good performances either leading or running on at the finish. A confident selection to win.
The other 3 to be in the quartet with Aznerak figuring to be the biggest challenger.

Race 3
93…Winter Auralius
91…Special Encounter
91…Silver Cent
90…Figaro
89…Agustina
88…Astroman

A tricky affair with a number of the runners having better history than current form, these include Elusive Wolf, Hold the Line, Hot Chilli, Phoebus and Singh is King.
Figaro disappointed lto yet likely to lead throughout from a good draw, not much value considering all possibilities.

Race 4
105…Clifton Sunset
102…Ostentation
..99…Karatage
..99…Mayfair
..98…Icy Spirit

Clifton Sunset figures to be the banker for the day.

Race 5
92…Eina
91…Le Chat D’amour
91…Wandies
91…Not a Word
89…Willowgrange
89…Hey Georgie’s Girl
87…Roy’s Dollar

Hardest race of the day – going with current form, Eina and Not a Word.

Race 9
111…Highway Explorer
107…Respect at Bay
106…Vine Street Star
106…Old Em

Going with ‘local’ form above Computaform Sprint form

Race 10
103…Out My Way
..98…Great Value
..96…Bengal Bay
..96…Roy Royale
..??…Zinnavar

Out My Way to be running on best of all in a stampede finish.

Thanks Malcolm ... interesting figures

I think it is a real challenging card - got to think 'out of the box' ....

R1: The 4 favorites stand out, imo Champenois no value - Girl in Gold my choice, at 4/1 earlier good value, real value however Easy Peasy - not too far behind last time, running on over 1400 from a widish draw - 50/1 looks much too big

R2: Very open - Space Needle, Royal Kaitrina would be my first two, but Savannah Cat has found support and only needs to return to her best to feature here, Aznerak, Go with Flo ... the list goes on

R3: Not easy - Figaro tries shorter and is an obvious inclusion, Astroman often thereabouts so no reason why he can not challenge again; Winter Auralius, Hot Chilli (better 1000?) and Special Encounter would be next on my list; Harry Peppa has some sort of chance, but is drawn very wide; the juvenile Elegant General on times looks to have something to find

R4: Clifton Sunset looks hard to oppose, slight doubt about the 1400 ....imo Ostentation could be the biggest danger and looks good value, Icy Spirit, Nikki (Poly ?) and Karatage not without chances

R5: Bit of a 'mare .... Willowgrange first choice for me, but lots of others in with chances ... Wandies, Roy's Dollar (draw?), Hey Georgie Girl, Captain's Moll, Summer in the City, Eina, the list goes on ....

R6: I like the Bass coupling, with Three Balloons the value; real roughie Rocketball is still coming down in the ratings and imo is improving back to best (ignore his last run - imo he does not like soft conditions); Hyaku tries the trip and could surprise; for me Banner Hill has too much weight and Cape Speed may be a bit high in the ratings as well

R7: Again the value is to be found towards the middle of the boards; Smiling Blue Eyes needs to win this to have any chance of making the July, stable jock, so could return to her best; Wind Chill beat many of these in the Oaks, so 16/1 looks very attractive, Oriental Oak always thereabouts and tries the blinkers and is another who is attractively priced at 25/1; Orchid Island and Bi Pot obvious claims as well ; for me both Gimme Six and Final Judgement have stamina doubts, and Epona has yet to prove she is up to this class at the weights

R8: Both Al Sahem and Edict of Nantes have already cemented their positions in the July, so neither needs to win; many of the others will be going all out; Copper Force on his run behind William Longsword could be a real threat here, not much between the others like Africa Rising, Zodiac Ruler, Horizon who all need to win to get in the July, while on the Guineas form, Secret Captain can't be ignored and Pagoda can't be ignored

R9: Varbration looks to have been primed for this and with Khumalo in the irons, should be right there; roughie imo Old Em who tries the Poly, but has lots of early speed so upset material; Guiness tries a Cornell Collar, so could improve; Highway Explorer and Vine Street Var next best imo

R10: Tough closing race; Hallo Mr with the allowance my first choice; but again many challengers including Out My Way, Great Value, La Ferrari and Roy Royale

Enjoy B)

Race 2 - Gorgeous Guest won over 1400m last start but looked like she could handle a bit more early speed in the race which she will definitely get today over this 1200m. 7 to 1 was a nice price.

Race 7 - Epona unbeaten this d and would have come on from her last run.

Race 10 - La Ferrari looks a promising type and can step up today.
