With today's technology it should be the racing fans who vote from their mobiles.

I would be nervous Mac, WILLIAM longsword is getting votes and only won a single grade 1 and didn't contest another...... because he has gone to stud? If Gold Standard raced the rest of the season he probably would have been the top choice however being the highest rated but not racing cannot get you the award either.

Maybe a mix between the two? Still believe in set criteria so transparecy rules and planning is done accordingly. ....

But what a strong grade 1 it was. Also to be taken into account is he did it from draw 13. Edict of Nantes went on to win 2 grade 1's. Gold Standard ran 4th in the met. Heavenly Blue won a Gr 1. Then the CTS race, while not graded, has to be taken into account. Again he won from a double figure draw. Let's take a look at what was behind him and what they did subsequently.

Janoobi 2x Grade 2 winner(beating Al Sahem)
Safe Harbour(2nd in a grade 1)
Whose that girl(2x listed stakes winner)
Just Sensual(grade 2 winner and the best 3yo filly)
and of course African Night Sky - the 2nd horse to win all 3 legs of the winter series.

Also William won every single of his mile races beside the Selangor. He went badly at the start there and that was obviously not his race. He has a huge case IMO and he was a Champion.

Can understand your thinking but I cannot attach the name "champion" to a horse that won only one grade 1...... ...champions are not measured on potential they are measured on performance. Maybe he will be a champion sire based on performance.....

I agree. No doubt WLS massively promising but the choice to retire to stud leaves some doubt about exactly how good he was, as there is still expected improvement from many horses throughout the season.
Recently Act of War had a better record up to post Guineas ,and certainly on MR at the time far superior, but Legal eagle proved to be the best of his generation a few months later. There can be only speculation that WLS may, or may not have maintained or lost status as others progressed so on balance should not be voted above those that performed to G1 winning form throughout.
