What has happened to the poly in joburg?

They closed the sand and said poly for the Turfontein inner track.
“The thinking is that a synthetic surface at Turffontein would replace the Vaal Sand course’s big role in winter racing on the Highveld,” said Phumelela Horseracing Executive Patrick Davis. “If Phumelela did install a synthetic track at Turffontein, a decision would then have to be taken whether the existing Vaal sand track should be for training only or be converted to a turf racing surface.”

It seems that whenever money is needed for racing then its a problem. There are many examples of this the most obvious lately being the sectional timing. This is just one of many where the operators are selective in how they spend the cash. It is no problem however to spend R437M on acquiring 50% of Supabets, in fact you buy without even having the funds available. Just speak to your buddies at the RA and they give you R100m from their members kitty and hide it as a preferential shares offer

I did not read the detail on your opening post, i sure we need the inside track (grass) to give the main track a break for the big races?
I guess the poly still an option for a break but yes probably higher financial priorities?
