My day at Musselburgh race course
7 years 8 months ago
Yesterday I spent the afternoon at Musselburgh race course in a box in the Queens Stand. Friends of mine are emigrating to Australia. Amongst the invited guests were owners, trainers, TV personalities, ex international rugby players and me. I woke up this morning still trying to work out why i was invited.
The drive to the track, around 20 miles, was hectic. Even at 1130 in the morning there was traffic due to the low laying fog.
After parking up, free parking, I collected my ticket at the front reception where i was greeted warmly. A complementary race card was handed to me. I then made my way via the parade ring to the box. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful to all guests.
I had to apologise to those around the table that was i sat for using my phone playing Fairview bets and local bets as if i take cash i find myself always checking my pockets in case i have lost the money.
The lunch was a buffet, cold chicken, salads, salmon, veg pies. All very good. I passed on the desert. There was an open bar and if i were a drinker i would have thought that i was in heaven
There was a pretty big crowd for a Monday and heres one thing that will surprise you. There is a bookies shop on site, Betfred, plus Sports Bet and there were 16 free standing bookies on course. Yes 16 for a misreable Monday afternoon meeting.
For those who did not wish to venture out in the cold to the bookies ring or to the two on site bookie shops, there was a tote two steps from the box.
I also had access to the parade ring which was brilliant and i gave Economic Crises a kiss after he won at 7/1.
The course is well run and all the staff are friendly and the facilities all around the course is first class. It made for a pleasurable afternoon.
