2018 Gauteng Guineas

At a first glance, i really like the look of Monks Hood, with Majestic Mambo and Surcharge next best or in the shakeup. Monks Hood ran a great race against older horses, in a race short of his best in terms of distaafter a layoff. Luckily for Delpech he is retained for the ride, but I feel with the in and out form of the De Kock 3 year olds he will be rather lucky this time he doesn't need to swop. Monks Hood is also a grade 1 winner who is consistent enough with a run-on style that can be on or off the pace.

Surcharge looked well beaten off top weight and it's amazing he still won. He actually pushed another gear to win going away when he looked so defeated on shaky legs. This horse has an amazing spirit and one that looks sure to get the distance. What is really exciting his win rate, no matter the draw or weight he keeps on winningeven weighted not too. Either way he will be right there on course that he loves.

Majestic Mambo may be very special....Very very special. But still has to prove himself in this class. May very well walk all over this field and do the triple crown. A fealing of anticipation is created when he runs as his trainer has placed him well to avoid hard runs and bring him about. He wins easy in third gear and has never been pushed, probably if Delpech had to choose another horse beyond Monks Hood, it may well be Majestic Mambo or if I'm wrong he may wanted to ride him as a first choice.
