Fact. Molly obtained a buyers card.He are well known and surely could act as a agent for many owners at a pre discussed fee..the relevant sales company would have had knowledge of who he is representing.A while ago he raced in partnership with Chris van Niekerk. ..that bill is mostly likely for Chris.

To whoever reads this thread: the posters that support Mollet are truly a minority. Do not use their views as a sample of the views of South African Horse Racing.

It makes no difference that Mollet is a nice guy. We were misled. He deserves all the criticism levelled against him. The last time Tellytrack asked for donations for a sick and ailing presenter, Pierre Jordaan was pleased to have a new 10% owner.

I will no longer support a website that has posters who have no moral compass and condone conduct like that of Mollet.

I do not know OTA: A word of advice. Your voice here is much like a fart in the gusting wind. These people do not deserve your contributions. Rather post in a free environment away without intimidation being the order of the day!

Good bye forever.

Thruthsayer I appreciate your opinions on this forum, please don't quit ABC.

99% of us did not donate to Mollets retirement fund. Our taxes did'nt contribute either. Whether he bought on someone elses behalf, as Dave Scott confirmed, probably got paid a fee or maybe a share, doesn't affect us at all.
To mention Mollet, Markus Jooste & Jacob Zuma in the same post is Morally Reprehensible.
I personally will contribute funds should Mollet choose to take legal action against those who have slandered him without absolutely no evidence whatsoever.
This forum used to be fun, light hearted & generally enjoyable. Now & again someone tipped us a winner or some stable info or shed some light on a new subject, all interesting stuff.
Now I find that ABC has become a political arena, some posters are slanderous, uninformed & generally believe it is their DUTY to lecture us on morality etc. To those posters I say that we are not stupid, we do know right from wrong, we understand morality, ethics & the law.
Dont lecture us. !!!

Some people don't think about their future, they don't plan for their retirement they would instead gamble their lives away. They haven't learnt about budgeting.

At the Tote I frequent, daily there are some punters that lose their money punting horses thereafter they would ask money from other punters, they don't buy food with the money they receive, they would rather back another horse. They are addicted to gambling. I have learnt not to fuel these compulsive gambling addicts any of my hard earned cash. These guys thrive on sympathy.

Leaving 'Molly' out of it for a moment let's just consider a couple of facts.

1.) It is a GLOBAL reality that only 4% of the GLOBAL population make adequate provision for their retirement.
2.) No reliable statistics are available insofar as medical care is concerned but it is probably fair to assume that the 4% rule might well apply there too.
3.) The remaining 96% rely on a mix of family, charity & the state for these benefits.
4.) The current working population is now often referred to as the 'sandwich' generation in that they are both supporting (in various degrees) elderly parents and their own children.

Having worked in financial services since 1981 ( and I'm still active) I can tell you that this scenario has never changed despite an overwhelming amount of information which could assist you in avoiding this unpleasant future.

A toxic cocktail of inflation, taxation & rampant consumerism has largely been the reason why nothing really changes.

Ignoring consumerism for a moment I learned fairly late in my career why nothing changes. There are three additional reasons why most people reach retirement in a semi destitute state :

By analysing my own client body I discovered the following :

During the period from Age 40 - 50 many working people experience one (or all!) of the following setbacks which often consigns even the best laid plans to the dustbin :

a.) A relationship failure ( eg divorce , death )
b.) A career failure ( retrenchment, business failure )
c.) A health failure

Although it is possible to protect oneself against some of these issues the reality is that resources accumulated up to that point are often impaired or wiped out.

Now add in the simple fact that many willfully or negligently fail ( 'live for today!' or 'you only live once!' or 'alles sal reg kom!') to make any provision and you end up with the situation that 96% are confronted with.

The only indisputable fact is this : Participation in horse racing in any shape of form is unlikely to improve your future financial prospects. Lol.

Speaking from a personal viewpoint : Had I never discovered horse racing I might well be a multi millionaire today. But the other issues are :

Would I have had any fun?
Would I have just gravitated to another, different hobby?

Clearly philosophy and reality make uncomfortable companions.

Very good (as usual) post garrick.... I actually had a close friend pass away on 14th Feb 2018... Granted they were a little older than me, one of their last words were, I have planned to achieve so much on my bucket list, only to not achieve any due to my constant worry of saving money... Their one request to me was when you Dream of doing something, don't think too long, cause it will never happen..... Very fine line... As in life, there is no time line.....
Are you living your life or waiting to die?

Garrick spot on as normal and scotia reached the 96%
Have had a great life and no regrets as opposed to the careful few that did prepare (with possibly less fuller lifes) ?
As my uncle jimmy used to say " you are a short time living and a long time dead"

Or my grans last words when she became impossible to look after in the later years " david what are you doing in my bedroom with that hammer"

Its only a one liner for sensitive posters ....
