DURBANVILLE - 17 March 2018 St Patrick's Day
7 years 3 months agotabnews.co.za/Home/?p=57749
The latest initiative to bring racing to the public is a joint venture between Racing It’s A Rush and Stellenbosch University’s SRC at Durbanville Racecourse on St Patrick’s Day 17 March.
March 5, 2018
A lot of credit should go to the lovely Luella Robinson, wife of trainer Mike, as this was largely her initiative.
The main aim is to educate students about the industry as a whole, and to shed some light on the different aspects and careers available. The industry is filled not only with jockeys and trainers, but behind the scenes event co-ordinators, health & safety officer’s, advertising and marketing, finance, general administration and course management- just to name a few.
Together we hope to “de-mystify” the industry. Teach people about racehorse ownership and the different types available. Educate individuals about what it takes to get a horse to the race course and from here- hope to grow the support and following.
It is such an amazing feeling to stand in the parade ring, so why not experience what it is like to be an owner for the day by attending one of the many tours on offer. You will enjoy the benefit of going into the parade ring ahead of a race, to hear the jockey and trainer’s strategy for their runner.
Students will be transported to and from the course with HG Travelling Services and have the ever so knowledgeable Racing It’s A Rush team explaining the industry and answering their questions.
Gates open at 11am with plenty to eat and drink from CBC Brewery selections and if a good pint is not the order of the day for you, fear not- KWV will have their finest selection on offer.
There will be street braai vendors offering quick and easy meals. But if you are one to enjoy the finer things in life, then head on up to the 1stfloor where you will get to enjoy a St Patrick’s Day themed buffet for just R245 per head.
In between the 8 races, race goers will be entertained with live music brought to you by Adriaan Krause and a whole host of lucky draws with fabulous prizes, including (but not limited to), a stay at the magnificent Club Mykonos. And of course, since the Super Rugby season is well on its way, there will be a host of big screen TV’s so that you still get to support your team.
Join us whilst we entertain students and likeminded folks at the St Patrick’s Day Celebration being held at Durbanville Racecourse on Saturday, 17th March.

No order of preference :-
R4) If Negma jumps on terms, she will go very close to winning.
R6) Sark, if he can't beat this calibre of opposition, then ...........
R7) Mister Colin looks like he will appreciate the step up in distance
R8) My bet for the day, Johnny Black, 11/2 is too big a price.

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Hot and sunny- course will again be running very hard and fast.
Race 1: Bountiful Strength good debut and nice draw so should win this. Frozen Tune two good runs but 10 draw- she is the main danger unless there is a very good first timer.
Race 2: Lanza good debut and then disappointed in feature race when drawn wrong side of the track. Twin Falls has very similar form and came out to run a good second last week, so I think Lanza has a very good chance here. Unfortunately has the widest draw which may be his downfall. Flying Arrow was 3 lengths behind Lanza on debut when strongly fancied and is again priced up favourite. Gets a fair draw so must be respected, but I think too short priced. Carnage fair debut so can challenge here from nice draw. Skidoo also failed in the feature and similar comments to Lanza. Decent first run and from 1 draw must be respected. Some positive comments and a bit of support for a couple of first timers so a race in which to be careful.
Race 3: Canukeepitsecret should win but very short price. Cruise Along should get closer to her this time.
Beautiful Beat has had a couple of gallops and while this may be a bit short for her, she has put up some pleasing work and has a good draw so hoping she can run into the money.
Race 4: Negma is bred for further but has the form to win this if it’s not too short. Royal Marine is overdue his maiden win and should go close. Strabo to make up the trifecta.
Race 5: Not much between the top half dozen. Kamaishi, Spam Alert and Symphony all well tried and consistent. Nicky Noo has improved with each run and should enjoy the trip- good value at 7/1. Bikini Model has been a bit frustrating- should have won a maiden long ago. Unfortunately a wide draw, but has the ability to win and is very fit.
Race 6: African Messiah my first pick here, but not much between him , Sark, Giant Flag and Count Rosberg.
Race 7: Very open race - go wide. I don’t see any value in the favourite- he beat nothing of note in PE. I’m going for Paddington- he showed some sign last time that he may be regaining form and at best is very well in at the weights.
Race 8: Another open contest. Selailai my first choice just because he is lightly raced and so more scope for improvement.
Race 9: It doesn’t get easier in the last. Bon Bon is somewhat surprisingly priced up favourite from the worst draw. She is certainly capable of winning this but needs luck in running.
Richard has chosen her in preference to Golden Wine- the latter has shown best form over 1200m, but from a decent draw should cope with this trip at this course. The one she beat last time has come out to win so is a big price at 16/1- GW must be ew value at those odds.
