Can often be quite deceptive.
In the case of the latest brain fart by the organisers of the latest bloodstock sale in SA.
"roll up roll up some to our sale. Roll up roll up come spend your leisure Rand on our product.
roll up roll up BUT only come after Lot 230 if you are a budget buyer and don't want to spend over R100k roll up roll up don't even bother because we will NOT sell any of the 1st 230 lots for less than R100k roll up roll up no side deals will be done all horses NOT sold for R100k or bigger will race in the breeders silks roll up or roll away roll away......"

Has this been confirmed?
So basically the auctioneers take the floor and start at 100k and if nobody raises a hand the horse leaves the ring.
Even horses that sell for a million usually the man with the hammer drops to 50k to start the ball rolling
Interesting.......

The reserve commission is 5% so do the sellers/breeders have to pay 5 grand if the horse walks in and walks out ?

Once I read that lots 1-230 were "select", and not being in that "league", i only started looking at lots upwards of lot 270 (just in case there was an eager surge after the "select" part was over).
I have 3 "value" lots in mind which i will check out on Wednesday (hopefully pick up one for about 50-60k).

IF they had any brains and wanted to use it as a marketing tool then i could understand
230 lots minimum bid R88 888
Thus luring in all the Hong Kong buyers attention.
But to honestly say you will turn down a bid of R99 500 because the "min" is R100 000 is so stupid it beggars belief.

I foresee many many buybacks..after the CTS sale I wonder what is magically going to happen before the 1st of Jan 2019 to make all things good again for breeders? The main thing here is supply and demand and the group I feel saddest for are the poor yearlings that don't get sold..what happens to them? I have noticed a large drop in good reliable homes available for horses that are no longer racing and are not good enough for racing. Farms will have to prop up the prices to make it appear not too bad however that can only last so long.
Racehorse breeding industry has to be on a hiding to nothing unless they just cut their losses and "get rid " of those horses that nobody wants to buy, I feel for that industry as they have been breeding more and more and getting higher and higher prices over the last few years and overnight that has gone, many will not survive at the levels they are at now, poor mares bye bye to them too. Tough world needs much higher regulation by authorities.
