I have a coffee-table book showing the carded runners, jockeys, trainers, owners, betting and even fashion for every July to 1990 something. Good pics. I think Ernie Duffield the author. I’m sure some of you may have.

Frodo ....it was 1 march 2018 .... i dont thumbsuck my friend .... your race in question on 6 march was on rating before he got( like all horses ) his 6 points added because the weights for this specific race was already allocated and set before 1 march . I know my ruleslol
So it applies to horses DECLARED from 1 March .... plenty of examples of horses that RACED off their 'old' ratings in the first week of March or so ....

Found this tidbit from Ken Nicol on SAhorseracing .....
'An inquiry to the official handicappers has revealed that recently returned to racing Legislate, who currently has a merit rating of 117, did not receive the across the board six- point merit rating rise applied at the beginning of March.
MAY 29, 2018
National Horseracing Authority (NHRA) handicapper Lennon Maharaj confirmed that “only horses that had raced from the 1st of August 2016 were raised”.
Legislate made his last appearance in the Drill Hall Stakes of 5 May 2016, so he escaped the hike.
A horse returning from a long rest can also have their rating dropped by up to five points by the handicappers (see below), but this is not normally applied to elite performers. Legislate certainly falls into that category, and his rating remained untouched.
In June Legislate has been nominated for the Grade 1 Rising Sun Gold Challenge and Post Merchants. Neither is a handicap, and in both races he would carry the same weight whether his rating was 117 or 123.
The Vodacom July is another story. He is now theoretically 3kg better off there than he ‘should’ be, but of course if he wins or goes close in the Gold Challenge his rating will almost certainly rise.
While if he doesn’t perform well there he is almost certain not to run in the July, so it could be something of a moot point.'
Still the July probably not in the plans for Legislate ....

With Liege winning the summer cup, he gets automatic entry and if coral fever top weighted he will run off a mark of 56. A great mark for a 40-1 shot imo. My question though is does Liege need to run another race before the July in order to participate as I see he isn’t in the jubilee.

Perhaps, but I’ll be holding some stock just in case. Any idea if he has to have another run before taking his place?

7 years 2 weeks agoHe doesnt get automatic entry into the july he gets preferential treatment ..He will have to show his wellbeing as the gold circle 150 days barrier trial ruling which as i found with strathdon is another ruling that can be bent when it suits...my 2 cents worth is that leige wont run in the julyRichie77 wrote: With Liege winning the summer cup, he gets automatic entry and if coral fever top weighted he will run off a mark of 56.
