6 years 11 months ago
It is rumoured that there was a decline in betting turnover on Vodacom Durban July day when compared to last years turnover.

....we will wait for the official splab blaming the weather....and everything not pertaining to the facts that Phumelela is cr@p.....despite taking bets early....the Tabonline site played up for 2-3 hours being slow and not accepting bets....had a few duplication of bets and when I tried phoning in to rectify.....the telephone line message was that the system was overloaded.....this message played for around 2 hours before the July.....did get a call answered after the phone rang for 20 min but by then too late....thankfully bets were winners and profits doubled....but only played a very small portion into July race.....I feel for those tellybet okes that have not migrated to internet betting as they must be miffed that they got totally stiffed..... :S....after the July race....it was pure heaven.....everything was back to normal....but to lose turnover in pre-July races and on the race itself is the operators fault entirely.....

One reason and one reason only.
The mighty England were playing Sweden in the 1/4 final of the World Cup on the same day and a lot of South Africans were learning the lyrics of " It's Coming Home"
We all know the England Football Team is passionately supported by 95% of true South Africans.

I was in a box where in years before everyone bet on the tote. Nowdays everyone bets online on their phones with bookies. Its all going there, hardly anyone even took cash

....well the head honcho has blamed soccer and the lack of favorites winning to ensure the churn....FFS that is most gullible....the results on Saturday were far more favorable that the past 2 years.....fact is they cannot look inward at the bigger problem that happened Inland at Turffontein and the telephone betting system that could not cope when bettors that could not bet online went for the alternative....every drop in betting turnover is being found at each bookie promoted through their media machine....

SA racing is on its way down, not just turnover.

I was on course and observed the ffg:
Very loud music whilst the races were been run.
Very poor betting operators, you had to repeat a bet multiple times for them to get it right.
when you marked that betmark card then they got the change wrong!
The alcohol price was crazy.
Very few punters shouting home thier winners, like previous years where the atmosphere was electric and you could actually see happy people.
Punters looked very depressed by the time the main race ran and i am sure that many wont be back for the 2019 VDJ and neither will my crew and myself.
Point to note: With so much of advertising on the VDJ there was a 7/8% drop so imagine the drop that would be experienced at the Gold Cup where there is minimal advertising?

Got realy pissed of waiting in the lines to take bets, & when u did get your bet it was incorrect due to incompetent people working at the tills. So what do you expect?
