i have to query cutting a race at each meeting!
1. this will result in loss of betting revenue. further impacting stakes down the road.
2. less races means less horses over time
3. less winners means less horses moving thru the ranks, impacting horses careers
4. less rides for jockeys

previously we were told it is the cost to put on or running of the meeting that is so expensive. surely adding a 10th or 11th race to all meetings at lower stakes would make more sense
2nd pick sixes and jackpots every meeting. co mingling etc

Phumelela looks like they are playing chicken with the gambling board and are hoping the GB blink first.

big owners and trainers are very quiet while this all takes place. do they know something we dont?

The way that I understand the situation is that the Stakes pot is under pressure, as has been the case for a good few years. Tote turnover has declined and continues to do this. The balance of the Stakes pot is made up from other incomes. So, the current tote turnover is not covering the full Stake of the race.

So to put on extra races will mean more losses.. With the same income from other sources into the stakes pot but with one race less, the financial result improves.
