On the occasions that I visited KZN I always made a point of using the Durban North TAB mainly because of the helpful service and an owner who always went out of his way to help whenever he could. The staff were all well trained and pleasant and to be honest probably one of the best totes I've been to anywhere . Well yesterday I was informed that he is closing down at month end. Really pretty sad given that at the recent KZN racing awards he was given an award for the best tote operator. He tells me he cannot continue to operate at the current deal which has been the same for 17 years while rent and salaries and other overheads continue to rise but his turnover has not shown growth in the last couple of years. This we all know despite our betting whizz kids creating more and more new bets and more jackpots but the cake has never gotten bigger just the slices getting smaller. Apparently he has tried to negotiate a new deal but to no avail. So now we heard that Gold Circle will continue to run the outlet with their own staff. Well I for one will find somewhere else to go. Just sad that such a good operator Is lost to the industry. I get that times are hard but surely you help the good people you have in the system to continue. Really its disappointing from GC. Good luck to you Grant in whatever you choose to do its been a pleasure to be in your facility.
