TELLY TRACK SPLIT SCREEN
4 years 10 months ago
Why suddenly the split screen becomes non functional when there are parallel races running but the buildup of the race is on split screen? Is it really difficult to split the screen rather than screen individual races and tellycrap ALWAYS screen the other race late after the results are out. Saturday mornings the program is really congested and if you cant make use of the split screen then why are you operating 1 channel on DSTV??

A few of their production staff appear to have no interest in their jobs... if they just went to split screen when they step out for a smoke or whatever...
and my pet peeve...when the cannot just use a voice-over for their selections... like I must see Cecil in the studio...ffs

I have posted a hundred times (hyperbole) about their usage, or lack thereof, of the split screen functionality. You have hit the nail on the head, the split screen works amazingly well when it comes to everything but the actual races

Hi Bob
There have been complaints from customers when Tellytrack use the split screen function for two live races, hence the decision to show the race that jumps first and record & televise the second race time permitting. Local races will however take precedence in these situations.

Thanks BOB for conveying the response
I just wish i was a keyboard warrior.
What motivated me to raise the complaint is something which i feel pisses me off and other punters esp what happened on Kranji Race 1. Telly prioritised Gold coast race and then they started showing betting for the other Aussie track but Kranji had finished running behind the scenes.
The main question which remain unanswered is WHY the build up is live but the real race is delayed. Moreover the delay takes long because you start showing betting of the other races which goes off within 5 min & show us results of race which ran 5 min ago ...then seems after a while someone clicks the replay button.
I'm sure any punter would prefer have the split screen than this delayed screen of the race (when we now knw the result) save for local races. Tellytrack has the benefit of learning from Sky how quick they screen their races and they dont spend time on ads etc but they show the real races coz thats what motivate turnover for all 3 codes in Aussie.

My biggest complaint about TT which I hope they take into consideration is the following:
1. Know which races to prioritize - Yes local racing is prioritized (I may not agree with prioritizing a MR78 over Glorious Goodwood, but that is another topic). International races with Local exotics, as in Kranji in the above example, should be the ones prioritized over the millions of Aussie races that most punters are not even betting into. Not all tracks are equal. At night, as another example, TT will show 15 mins of Gulfstream build up, when for some odd reason we don't even get local exotics at this course any more, while we have UK meetings still running without even showing us that the horses are about to load.
2. As a punter, I want to see when the race is about to jump. Does TT broadcast for the Bookmaker or for the tote? If for the Bookmaker, then yes, you may cut to full screen and forget all other races. This is because fixed odds bets are already on. Tote bettors, however, continuously play until the jump. If I don't know what is happening at the race I want to bet in, chances are I am not going to be betting. What if I take a quartet with a horse banker that was unruly at the start, or spent 5 mins resisting being loaded. This is all variables that I do not see if the split screen is taken away, and I have no visuals of the center I want to bet at.
My suggestion here, by all means, show full screen of the race being run, but PLEASE keep at least a small portion of the screen at the top showing the other race that is about to jump as well, in the event that this situation does arise. Once the small screen race jumps, definitely drop it, and play us a recording. Makes no difference to me after that as my bet is on, and if I see the race a few mins delayed after is irrelevant (as long as it is played as soon as possible without impacting other imminent races).
3. Build up - And I see this has started to be improved upon. Make punters aware of what exotics are coming up, show the tips for these exotics and build the pool. It is no surprise that the days in which Alistair is in studio are the days when the exotics for international racing are at their highest, all else being equal. He is clued up on what is due off when, and informs the punters in advance. The signs being up showing which exotic is due off when has been a good addition - I do feel the scroll above the screen could be utilized showing which exotics are still to come, be it a PA at Goodwood or a Jackpot at Saratoga.
4. Split screen races with no commentary while listening to the local presenter talk. This is something that becomes especially prevalent when we have a few Jackpot quickmixes incorporating races close to the start of local racing. The quickmix is a major bet, and has increased in popularity. What gets my goat is when I see a split screen running of a Harness race which is actually a leg of the quickmix, with no commentary so I don't know what runner is running in which position, or where my horses are. This is all while having to listen to Nadine discuss the chances of each runner for Fairview race 1 (Just using Nadine as this is the most recent example of this happening). Learn to identify what races are important and actually show them, or let the punters know that you are recording the 3rd last leg of the qmx and will play it after Fairview race 1.
Get these right and things will definitely improve, I think the channel is certainly on the improve overall, following all the feedback and responses to them.

I see TT are back to their usual. All progress gone. One just has to look at the poor exotic pools for the 1st 2nd and 7th race at Sandown to see the impact of TT only showing us a replay of the race, not even showing us a split screen that they're at the start and loading etc.

Flogging a dead horse...They don't realise that people who play horses want to see the horses...you would think that would be simple...

I don't watch F1 or GP etc anymore...but they don't cut away to give you their opinions...and if they do...they do voice-overs...

Unfortunately...you have to move to unlimited download...and then preferably highspeed like fibre...so that you can utilise the feeds available...because being limited to a production...where no-one gives a damn...is where you are at...
(that last phrase...is my pet American peeve...)
