The key to the meeting today depends on if the visiting runners take to the Poly - so for me the perms need to be split - one where the assumption is that they will all take to the surface like ducks to water, and another where the visitors are covered with local runners proven on the surface.

R1: Obviously the form horse is the visiting Gauteng raider Greenhill - if she flops on the surface anything is possible; there seems to be betting support for the debutante Mr Cat - who also may or may not take to the surface; then we also have the other Gauteng raiders who both need to improve (not impossible) on their first tries on the Poly; best value for me is Zuberi, who holds English Princess on the run to Stanton Street, but is somehow at a much bigger price

R2: As with the first, the visitor from the Peter stable is the obvious one; the other raider in the form of Cape Diamond also brings some decent form - so they could run 1st and 2nd, or both unplaced; of the local runners my preference is for Indigo Moon (may have had excuses in her last 2 starts) and Varvacious; the two Flying the Flag debutantes seems friendless in the market, but who knows?

R3: Another short-price favorite in the form of Soller, but this one has some good form on the Poly, and for me should prove hard to beat; Global Appeal and the visiting Judpot filly Amplify next best for me

R4: Real open F&M Handicap where quite a few tries the trip for the first time, while the raiding Sekhmet tries the surface; hard to predict, so I'm going wide, including the rested Royal Kitty, who has run well on the surface and could feature despite a wide draw - has come down 10 points in the ratings (and then gets a further 2,5 kgs allowance) since her Maiden win (by more than 4 lengths)

R5: Looks a 2-horse war; my preference is for Bells and Whistles, who should prefer this 1600, from Rock Flight, who comes down in trip; visiting Offsides needs to step up on her exposed Gauteng form

R6: Competitive handicap; Magical Midlands brings some useful Cape form, but of course needs to reproduce that on the Poly, so seems too short in the betting imo; more or less the same applies to Captain Who, who gets 4kgs from the favorite, but still needs to show his worth on the Poly; best value for me is Count Marsh (should be ideally suited to this trip) but bar perhaps Lord of the Manor, all of these seem capable of winning this

R7: Another tough race to predict, complicated by the visitors; of the locals I think Di Mazzio (3 wins this track and trip) is good value from Valiente (better off now with Kings Road after beating that one last time); Whizz of Odds another who can upset the apple cart

R8: Quite a few with chances again; my first choice is top weight Purple Merchant, from Wildly in Love and Diamonds and Dust; I would have given Seemyvision a big chance with the allowance, but with the apprentice being replaced with a jock, I think she has more to do at the weights - still has a place chance imo

Enjoy B)

I would like to know how did 2000 + people in the punters challenge pick the winner of race 2. I mean the horse has 7 starts and has not won a single cent before today. How do you pick a horse like that?

Amplify should enjoy Poly (half sister has a 1-2-2 placing record first 3 from 5 starts on poly) - Weak field on debut but was green - Looked well going down sw with Global Appeal
