Very strange ride on Understated- 5 wide without cover for the first few hundred metres. Never in the race. Ignore this run.
Cape Point very unlucky- squeezed out shortly after the start, and made up many lengths in the straight to run 5th. Will win soon.
Jean Paul fair effort-needed the run more than expected and is one to follow next time.
Very sad with Montfort- broke down in the final stages and had to be euthanased. Condolences to the connections. Jockey reportedly luckily not badly hurt.
From lows to highs- Very gutsy win by Miss Jacqueline. Not the strongest field, but I think that she is better on turf, and can pick up another race or two.

*Helen’s Legend runs in the first race at Kenilworth on Saturday. This is too short, but she has been very disappointing and we are keen to see her get cover and run on. Not expecting much from her.
*Princess Anastasia runs in the 4th on Sunday at Greyville . I think that she has a very good winning chance.

Helen’s Legend bled, and has been retired. New career awaits in showjumping.
Princess Anastasia every chance but could only manage 4th.

Relatively quiet week.
*Gentleman runs in the 6th on Wednesday at Kenilworth. Steps up in class from a moderate WR maiden, although the form of that race not too bad with the runner up a winner next time out. A low weight, but not sure what to expect in a tough field. He’s fit and well and should still have scope for improvement.

Friday a couple of runners at Fairview. *Mistress of Means in race 6 and *Encryption in race 7. Both competitive handicaps, but both have decent draws and their work has been good.

*Pretty Betty runs in the Victress Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday. She is a bit out at the weights with Chat Ching and Marina, but she came through her prep run well, and I’m expecting a bold showing. I’m hoping that she is still improving and can fight out the finish.

Not a great week.
Replacement jockey on Gentleman stopped riding and reported he felt something amiss, but horse is sound.
Mistress of Means was hampered and then never in the race. Be glad when she can go on turf again.
Encryption an honest run to earn a cheque.
Pretty Betty was going sweetly in front, but then swallowed her tongue and choked up. She has never done that before, but will now get the tongue tie. Very disappointing as I thought that she could have gone close.

On Tuesday JP Twothousand runs in the 3rd. A tricky Maiden Handicap, where he has an ew shout. The one to watch is Wondering Star. Ran above its rating last time but could not be raised. Quite a few kilos well in here.
*Fynbos runs in the 2nd at Kenilworth on Wednesday. Just touched off last time and the long run in should be in her favour. She has a good winning chance.
*Treasure Hunt runs in race 8. Good run from a bad draw last time, and with the good draw in a similar field has a good ew chance.
*Cape Point runs in the 3rd at Fairview on Friday. Was squeezed out early last time and finished very strongly from far back. With a bit of luck from a wide draw, he could make his presence felt.
Secret Depths runs in race 4. Has been dropped a few points and drops in class but a big weight. I’m looking forward to her going on turf again next month.
Indigo Fields runs in the 2nd race at Greyville on Boxing Day. Disappointing effort last time and hopefully can improve here.

Wishing everyone a very happy Christmas and a prosperous 2022.

Treasure Hunt a good third, Fynbos also third but in a 4 horse field. No show from the others. Indigo Fields a shocking ride- went like the clappers and unsurprisingly then stopped to a walk.

We have moved Grey Princess to PE, and giving her a run on the poly on Friday. Has not worked on the poly, so no idea how she will go on it. Wide draw. She is too high in the ratings for the summer in CT, and is better softer turf. Hopefully will get those conditions in the next few months in PE. Not expecting much from her this run. However, not the most consistent bunch, and if she likes the poly anything is possible.

Missing out on a couple of runners at the cancelled meeting at Kenilworth on Sunday. Very annoying. Jean Paul runs in the replacement meeting at Fairview, race 3. I’m not expecting much from him on the poly.

Thanks for the amazing info PeterD. When's the next Siren's Call in the making. Your horse can beat the bookmakers.

Friday runners at Kenilworth:
Race 6 *Fynbos in the Jamaica. A few kg under sufferance so a very tough task, especially from a poor draw. She was planned to run on 2nd, but taking her chances here and hopefully can step up and sneak into the places. Stable companion Scented Mistress is very well in and I think is the likely winner.
Race 7 Major Attraction and Sound of Warning in the Sceptre. Major Attraction fair run this trip last time, but is better a bit further. Sound of Warning has a very good chance, but a tough race, and quite a few with chances.

Saturday at Kenilworth.
Race 3 * I’m In Charge will prefer this trip, although was also supposed to run on 2nd Jan over 1600m. Tough draw to overcome, but hoping to see him run on and show improvement.
Race 6 *Pretty Betty in the Paddock. Very tough race, and a poor draw to overcome. Ignore her last run- choked up and now gets the tongue tie. Is fit and well and expecting a good run. Captain’s Ransom is the one to beat, and Princess Calla and She’s a Keeper both top sorts. Chansonette is hard to assess against the older fillies, but must be respected.
Race 9 Veni Vidi Vicci won well last time when fitted with blinkers and should again be competitive in an open race. Stable jockey rides lightly raced Queen’s Wood, but Anton Marcus a more than capable replacement. The horse to beat is Surjay- not disgraced in the Guineas, and back in this class a huge runner.

Will be shouting for Kommetdieding in the Queen’s Plate to get another big win for Elusive Fort.
On the racing side, my best runner for the festival is Crimson King in the Cape Summer Stayers. Hopefully we can close off the day with a feature winner.

Fynbos ran on but no show in this class at the weight disadvantage.
I’m in the camp of those who believe that the better option would have been to declare the Sceptre null and void and perhaps rescheduled for a few weeks time. Sound of Warning a non runner after being impeded by the handler. Major Attraction ran on well from well off the pace, and was promoted to third place. Good run this trip.
Pretty Betty very disappointing- perhaps she is better on a soft track.
I’m in Charge no show.
Good second by Veni Vidi Vicci after setting a strong pace.
Crimson King was the big disappointment- ran no sort of race and clearly something amiss.
Indigo Fields took to the poly on Sunday, and won comfortably start to finish. Did not beat much, but hopefully can go on from here.

Friday runners at Fairview
*Mistress of Means race 6. Good draw of 4 after the scratchings, and she will enjoy being back on the turf. Its a very open and competitive race, but expecting her to run a good race and has an ew shout at long odds.
*Encryption race 7. She is out at the weights, but is very game and has a plum draw. Chat Ching, Carioca and Veronica Mars should fight it out, but we are hoping to sneak a place if one of them fluffs her lines.

Monday at Kenilworth
Exceeder in race 5. He is in good form and still improving, and although he may be better further, should again be competitive with top jockey booked.
*Gentleman race 7. Ignore last run. This is a competitive race, and not sure what to expect from him.

All three ran 3rd and the two at Fairview very generous prices.
Encryption ran a cracker and got some small black type.

*Drama Queen runs in the 7th race at Greyville on Wednesday. Her only run on the poly was not bad, but she has a wide draw to overcome. Very open race so anything is possible.
JP Twothousand runs on Thursday at the Vaal. He drops back in trip, but should have a good chance of winning in what looks a moderate field.

I have 4 yearlings on the CTS Cape sale on 6th Feb. Videos will be up on the CTS website shortly.

Drama Queen dropped out from wide draw, ran on from too far back, 5th. Watch over 1400m turf especially if we can crack a draw.
JP Twothousand looked a winner but just pipped into 3rd.

Friday at Fairview, *Grey Princess runs in the 5th race. Back on turf, but a very wide draw to overcome. Will enjoy a bit of rain.
Sunday at Kenilworth * Fynbos runs in the 6th. Small but wide open field. This is her minimum trip, but hopefully will be running on strongly.
