Yeah that's true Magi.
But lets face it KZN racing could make a punter who has played for 50 years every single day call it a day.

It’s sad looking at pools and we know the physical tote system is not working. Even more sad seeing all the money spent on racing in Cape yet it does not seem to be delivering on this aspect of racing income. It has to eventually affect the prices at the sales surely?

The guys running racing is spending a lot of money on positive changes that mainly focus on the owner and facilities. Nothing wrong with this as it creates visible and some monetary appeal but in my estimate avoids the real issue altogether. Until they are willing to spend serious money on building a new and sustainable customer base these efforts will come to naught in the end. We are still part of the old school punting club which has served racing well over many decades but the reality is that future customers will need a very different approach. The reliance on a small number of big spending customers and die hard pony junkies is a model that is collapsing rapidly and no amount of icing will keep the cake from getting stale. Will everyone ignore the obvious forever or will they wake up to the need for serious capacity building projects. These guys have the money and the passion, why not tackle the real problem?

There are a lot of naysayers amongst  you all but I say it again, the Open bet has killed our tote pools and will continue to as long as the greedy  bookmakers continue to wage this unfair war against our sport.  The p6 pool at Cape met was well under 9 million. No one says a word!! I challenge the 3 big bookies to declare how much they each held on the Met p6. Won't happen as they happy to skin racing and give back some for all their sponsorship and exposure by owning all the players in racing. HORRIBLE SITUATION

Agree, Mr Goodman...

The tote payouts should not be used by the bookies as it is the intellectual property of the operators but that ship has likely sailed beyond the horizon due to the bungled (don't know if that's the correct word without knowing all the facts so I stand corrected) litigation...

And I'm not a fan of the extent of bookies involvement as they are wearing too many hats in the industry so they are not independent, as one would like, from the results...to the detriment of the punter...

I presented our operators with an alternative wagering product that would seriously challenge the open bet as the risk to the player and bookmaker would be very high to enter into outside of the tote pool. There is a serious problem with the way racing is managed and the quality of decision making on how to take racing forward effectively. This is very sad as the sport has tremendous potential despite the many challenges faced but everyone seems ok with maintaining the status quo which is mind boggling. The future success of the industry hinges on the ability to reach out to the public at large and to cement an interest in racing some way before the wagering age is reached. Equally important is the ability to offer income generating non-wagering products as not everyone wants to gamble or be known as a gambler. Re-energising and repositioning racing would be such an exciting and worthwhile project and it is a marketers dream to build on a blank canvass.

I think this pool needs to be investigated as minutes before the race I am pretty sure that the pool was around R132K .I checked the bi pot pool before I placed my bet .The results of this race was somewhat delayed and to my shock I noticed the pool dropped from 132K to R89K .Maybe I saw incorrecty ,but I am confident that I saw R132K as the bipot pool.
