Today must be a new record that has been set. In race 5 there is a horse running with a merit rating of 15 . Luckily the handicaps have a minimum weight otherwise they would have to train a small light monkey to hold the reins

Of course an owner has every right to run his horse wherever - but one has to wonder about why they are persevering with this poor animal - his 'best' run was over a sprint where he finished last in a 9-horse field, 16.5 lengths behind the winner; in his last run over 1700 (Maiden Handicap where he carried only 48 kg) he managed to beat one horse home finishing 23 lengths behind the winner (and 8 lengths behind the 3rd last horse - receiving 4 kg); today he is going over 2600m - is there a case to be made for animal abuse ?

End his racing and then he will get the needle. Let him run and he stays alive.

Not necessarily - I don't know Mr Bywater from a bar of soap - but he might have smallholding somewhere where the horse could run around, or become a riding horse somewhere

Pie recipe

Ingredients
5 sweet potatoes, peeled then halved 900 g
1 1/2 onions, finely chopped 300 g
16 button (white) mushrooms, thinly sliced 220 g
2 tbsp olive oil 30 mL
500 g ground horsemeat
3/4 cup canned tomatoes (diced) 200 g
2 tbsp tomato paste 35 g
15 drops Tabasco sauce 0.63 mL
1 cup chicken broth 250 mL
1 cup frozen peas 120 g
1 cup milk, partly skimmed, 2% 250 mL
2 tbsp butter, unsalted 28 g
ground pepper to taste [optional]
1 pinch salt [optional] 0.2 g
Method
Preheat the oven to 205°C/400°F.
Prepare the vegetables: finely chop the onion; thinly slice the mushrooms; peel the potatoes, cut them in half then boil them 20-25 min until very tender. Drain them well and set aside.
Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the meat and sear it until it looses its red colour, about 4-5 min. It is important not to overcook, otherwise the meat becomes too dry.
When the meat is golden-coloured, add the chopped onion then cook 2 min with stirring. Stir in the diced tomatoes, mushrooms, tomato paste, Tabasco sauce, and broth. Add the frozen peas and continue cooking until heated through, about 4-5 min. Add salt and pepper. Remove the pan from the heat and transfer the contents to a baking dish.
Pour the milk into a large microwave-safe bowl. Add the butter and microwave on medium-high a few minutes, uncovered, until very hot. Add the cooked potatoes and mash the mixture until it is creamy. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place a spoonful of the potato mixture on top of the meat mixture, then gently spread it with a spoon to cover evenly.
Bake in the middle of the oven until the top is golden-brown, about 30 min. Serve.
End his racing and then he will get the needle. Let him run and he stays alive.

Does seem a more punter-friendly card (smaller fields due to the Inside track) than on Tuesday at the Vaal - but that does not mean to say it is straight-forward

R1: On form I prefer Fashionigma, but the draw is a worry - still should go close in this moderate field; Seconds Errore fair debut and could be the main danger from a good draw; Saint Anastasia out of a Galileo mare, so should improve this trip

R2: Juveniles; on form it lies between Cool Winter, Strike a Match and Twin Strike, with East Coast and Eye of the Prophet the unknown factors; interesting that Second Breath takes on the boys - does get the weight allowance, so could make the quartet pay

R3: Juvenile fillies; not much to choose on form between Emirate Gina (probably will be at best over more ground) and Miss Cool while Rimaah could be anything; roughie to consider for places imo is Dame Twining who gets pole position and the apprentice allowance

R4: Open looking Maiden, where Mcebisi has been knocking at the door and won't get a much easier opportunity to shed his Maiden; I make Grand Escape and Ntabazondi the main dangers

R5: Weak-looking Maiden over 2600; I think the fillies Cape Bouquet and Kissed By Fire may have the edge - but neither sure to stay, so I'm including Intercity who probably needed her last start and has run a fair race over this trip back in July last year; London Roads could be improving but was a long way behind in 2nd last time

R6: Handicap; small field but the betting still seems a bit cramped; it should lie between the top two on the boards Quantum King and Val d 'Orcia; value could be Theory of Flight

R7: Not a lot to choose on form between Tanzanite Queen and Permesso Avanti; for me TQ did win a bit cosily last time and is my preference; Warship probably 3rd best

R8: Another F&M Handicap; I think it lies between the de Kock stable mates; Verolina has run some good races at this track and probably rates the one to beat from a good draw, while Talinn comes off a good run on Saturday and has a much better draw today - but has not had a win for 859 days  dangers in a trappy contest probably Mounia and Icy Night with Spiritofthegrove (also has not won for more than 700 days)

Enjoy B)

Good day Gentlemen, I sense a bit of TALLINN in the last. Zackey seems to be the pilot for this one and has a lovely draw on the bend. It has been struggling to get fortunate at the draw lottery since that improved run on the 13th of Jan and at the rating of 68 must be cherry ripe and juicy. Hence a nice EW bet at 5/1 seems appropriate.
