Gold Circle Assistant Trainer Development Programme ππ
2 years 11 months ago
Gold Circle has taken it upon itself to assist in empowering the different stakeholders involved in horse racing by initiating the Gold Circle Assistant Trainer Development Programme, which promotes stable employees to assistant trainers by assigning them to qualified trainers to mentor them and teach them the necessary skills required to become a professional racehorse trainer.
Siboniso ββBoβ Ngcobo, a graduate of the programme has been able to start training horses under Tony Rivallandβs support and guidance. Siboniso also had the opportunity to train Mrs. Slack owned-Oscar Wilde in the tenth race at the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
Gold Circle also offers a stipend for the duration of the development programme, covers the costs of their exams, and assists in setting up a coaching business for the newly qualified trainers.

2 years 11 months agoIf 90% of the population are the smallest owner group in the country by a mile then no wonder horse populations are down...if black ownership increased so would there be a rise in punters...its not about color its about the emerging class of people that can afford to own horses.... if we had 20 more Jessica Moutangs and 20 more Nkales etc we would find new markets for horses and because of their influence far more punters...if we continue to lose owners and races feature 3 trainers like Zim then racing will be just as it is in Zim and Kenya...a jokeMore punters (black, white , pink or orange) = bigger pools = bigger stakes = more OWNERS = more horses = repeat

Tried to get involved in racing at 20-yo.
Sent mails and tried to contact many trainers but 0 reply.
Then thought, why not breeding.
Asked a few stud farms if there was a potential internship or programme I could do to learn more about the industry but again no reply.
It's an industry that wasn't accessible and now that it is struggling the players are looking for ways to build itself up again.
Why now only?
We live in a social media and influencer era.
People more interested in their phones or gaming.
A betting site such as TAB or Hollywood should try teach people how to bet on the various open and fixed odds options by creating/developing a play-to-earn app where based on challenges or quizes completed you earn a R10 or so voucher to be able to wager on said options.
Example:
What is a swinger?
1. List of swinger options. (banker, boxed, etc.)
2. How to calculate a swinger.
3. How to calculate winnings.
4. How field sizes effects a swinger.
5. Reward given for said betting option.
You'll therefore create interaction and build a betting option understanding.
The newbie will therefore feel more confident through knowledge gained and maybe encourage a few friends to try learn too.
Building interest will cost money but at this point what is there to lose?
A competition can also be created based on the above thereafter.
Choose a racemeeting and have a swinger competion.
All other exotics will also form part of this play-to-earn or pay-to-learn scenario.
Only way new interest is currently drawn is by creating boozed up fashion shows with an after party as a highlight.
The horse has been forgotten and so has the tote.
