The start of this Race was delayed due to the Starter’s report below.
THE STARTER REPORTED:
a) RENAISSANCE MAN (*R Venniker) was fractious in the stalls, removed, examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, declared fit to race and was re-loaded.
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED :
a) RENAISSANCE MAN (*R Venniker) jumped out leaving the starting stalls, making contact with VASILIKOS (K de Melo) resulting in VASILIKOS (K de Melo) being squeezed out.
b) BACK TO BASICS (J Gates) was hanging out throughout.
c) Apprentice R Venniker reported that she felt something amiss with RENAISSANCE MAN in the concluding stages. The Veterinary Surgeon was requested to examine.
d) Approaching the 150m, BLESS ME FRED (K Sakayi) and RENAISSANCE MAN (*R Venniker) which were hanging out from the top of the straight, drifted outwards. Thereafter, LAZULI (R Fourie) had to steady when tightened for galloping room between the outside running rail and BLESS ME FRED (K Sakayi). A race review was called by a member of the Stipendiary Board with regard to this incident. After viewing the patrol films from the various angles, the Board was of the opinion that both BLESS ME FRED (K Sakayi) and RENAISSANCE MAN (*R Venniker) played a role in the interference suffered by LAZULI (R Fourie). Additionally, the Board was satisfied that Jockey K Sakayi (BLESS ME FRED) and Apprentice R Venniker (RENAISSANCE MAN) made numerous attempts to straighten their mounts from the top of the straight and therefore took no further action against these riders.
e) Apprentice R Venniker appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding her efforts when riding this gelding out to the finish. She explained to the Board that she had felt something amiss with her mount in the concluding stages and that she noticed blood on the horse’s head. As a result, she did not persevere with her mount in the concluding stages.
f) Jockey R Fourie appeared before the Board and was questioned with regard to his late effort in encouraging LAZULI to the finish after this filly suffered interference. He explained to the Board that after the interference at the 150m, this filly became unbalanced and lost momentum. He further explained that it took time to build her up again and to re-gain his balance. This, in his opinion, had contributed to his late riding effort in the concluding stages. The Board noted both Apprentice R Venniker’s and Jockey R Fourie’s explanation.
g) In view of the Starter’s report with regard to RENAISSANCE MAN (*R Venniker), this gelding’s starting stall certificate is withdrawn and it is suspended in terms of Rule 61.6.10 for a period of 7 days and until such time as it proves tractable with a companion. Suspension dates: 26.07.22 to the 01.08.22.RENAISSANCE MAN may not be presented for re-passing during this period. Trainer M Roberts was advised. (SL)
