Imo - on the Charity Mile form, not a lot to choose between Puerto Manzano, Cousin Casey, Bless My Stars, Winchester Mansion (all should be suited to 2000m) and Bingwa - not sure that Bingwa stays the trip but would be an upset inclusion in a bigger P6; so given the draws and jocks, of those I would think that Bless My Stars and Cousin Casey at 7s are the value

On the Victory Moon, 2 runners stand out at the weights allocated in the Summer Cup - I have been preaching Son of Raj, but because of firstly an outside gate and secondly a 'less fashionable' jock, he has been allowed to drift to 20s, which I still think is big value - especially the 3/1 for the first 4 places; the other runner who is well in is Billy Bowlegs (15/1) - should comfortably turn it around with Atticus Finch and Electric Gold, but is 3 kgs worse off with Son of Raj for a half-a-length beating - both should not have a problem with stepping up to 2000m

So for me the Top 6 would be (in no particular order) - Puerto Manzano, Cousin Casey, Bless My Stars, Winchester Mansion, Son of Raj and Billy Bowlegs

The rest seems held imo - maybe Safe Passage can bounce back to his best, but it may be indicative that JP is riding East Coast

.....although I see it sort of the same way....I still think that the race is wide open and some formless no hoper is going to finish in the frame with the better sorts....

So far coverage has been great! Build up to the all important draw and final field announcement + panel discussion. All quiet on the day, no 240 coverage or online coverage of this glamorous event, got to see some pics of a screen from an angle on social media of the "official announcement"

10/10 for pics posted of Victor Matfield and other celebs though! Pity not too much more from the live event or anything of actual interest or substance.

2023 R5 million Betway Summer Cup Final Field & Draws

Johannesburg, 16 November 2023

The draw ceremony for the 2023 Betway Summer Cup was conducted in style at the Marabi Club in New Doornfontein, Johannesburg on Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

Steered by Clyde Basel, the evening got under way with addresses from 4Racing’s Head of Racing Operations Gabriel Soma and Betway’s Head of Customer Experience Jonathan Blumberg. Trainers and Betway Ambassadors Mike de Kock and Sean Tarry reflected on Betway’s impact on the Highveld racing landscape, before the focus shifted to the all-important Barrier Draw ceremony.

The Weighted To Win team of Darryl Maree, Clyde Basel and Daryn Burroughs rounded off formalities with a review of the final line up.

The coveted no 1 draw went the way of Mike de Kock-trained ARAGOSTA, with the rest of his arsenal, SAFE PASSAGE, SHOEMAKER and EAST COAST drawing 9, 18 and 16 respectively.

Johan Janse van Vuuren drew at both ends of the spectrum with defending champion PUERTO MANZANO (ARG) drawing 16, while stablemate BINGWA got the no. 3 berth.

Brett Crawford’s July hero WINCHESTER MANSION drew stall gate 11, while his stablemate, BILLY BOWLEGS got gate no 13.

Sean Tarry’s 3-strong draft comprising COUSIN CASEY, BLESS MY STARS and LITIGATION drew 12, 2 and 17.
