Pick6 - Whos to blame?

Before you continue to read this (yes you too P and GC) I ask you to remember a time when you were trying to figure this game out. A time when you couldnt tell a filly from a colt, a jockey from a stable boy, Kennilworth from Greyville and a race card from a final exam paper in quantum physics

I see there is a lot of crying on the dark side of the moon about the same issue. I assume that we all believe that larger pools are what we need to carry the sport into the future. The bonus would be to have pools large enough to advertise about. The question is, if we did have a double carry over onto Friday at Greyville, would the operators have reacted quick enough to advertise this to the non playing public and if so, how would they have done this?

This bet type is a winner for this game but is under marketed. I believe that the P6 pool should at least reach 2 or 3 bars every month end Saturday and close to 7 bars on big days. Can you imagine the pulling power of a 7 Bar pool and can you imagine the new players that one would pull into this game.

Instead we advertise the trifecta on July Day. We are asking un race educated mug punters to understand commingled pools, boxed trifectas, roving bankers, fixed bankers bla bla bla and a whole bunch of other bet related jargon. We then expect them to fill in a bet slip which makes one feel as if they are in a nightmare and have woken up in a K53 learner driver’s exam, and when we give it to the tote jockey; they crap on you because you didn’t mark it correctly. "Like, what is wrong with you are you f..ing stupid!!!"

The joke of it all is that most are mugs, putting money on the horse because, one of their family friends surname is the same as that of one of the horses in the field. (Dunford, Me the mug, R50 and a R1400 profit) No other reason. No form study. No info. No clue. And we sit here and bang our heads against our desks and cry into our forums because our leaders are blind. And we ask ourselves why do people choose six numbers on a lotto ticket with a 14 million to 1 win ratio and think they can win, while racing sits on its hands and conjures up ways to skin the skinned (Pick3). Yet, they sit on a gold mine of a bet, which offers far better odds and is so simple to select in a straight line, even if it is because of the names of your pets, uncle, family friends surname and or any other mysterious reason.

Why do people sit in front of limited payout machines where the highest prize is R500 and it costs R1000 to claim the R500 "Jackpot" when a simple R6.00 ticket could make you far richer than the combined payouts of every limited payout machine in KZN. (Trust me theres's a lot). No one needs to understand the dynamics of the bet, simply choose 6 random numbers, names or mysterious reason over 6 legs and you could be a millionaire.

I have to go and pop a headache tab so I have one last thing to say to end my rant: Here we go P and GC I give to you this piano. Play for us, the mere peasants, beethoven's sonata pathetique (in c minor). It’s what you expect the un race educated punter to do.

I think the music choice is apt.

Gather we are all having a concerned night, kept thinking about why we don't have punters going to the track, thanks for the post AL. I have read your post, hope you read mines.

I like the thought of winning a 10 bar jackpot every week?

Scotia -

I did read and reply.

Puffin -

I reckon that you are in for a big day and I am looking forward to a Puffin and connections treble at decent odds touch wood. She will start 6/10. The bookies do read these forums unfortunately. I see winning form guessing her to open at 18/10 which in my view would be fair but anything shorter is a bit cramped. Cramped it shall be though I have no doubt. I hope that she has recovered from her bout of whatever was going around. You did mention that a virus was doing its rounds the last time she was due to run. I am glad that she stayed away from what seems to be a goat track Durbanville, the Capes answer to Scottsville. Enjoy, I expect to see you in the winners box 3 times.

Phumelela's advertising generally amounts to little more than use of the phrase "Win Big" (whatever that means) and touting Estimated Pools when there's any kind of carryover. There does not appear to be anybody in their marketing division with any real flare or imagination.

Well the old champ needs to prove that he can still run after his injury and owes you one for his "under performance" in KZN. Bill of Rights earned his keep last week it's floats turn this week. The maiden is also due to get of those ranks and the future champ should win the novice and the next one that she has accepted for. They must all start earning their keep now after a long and wet Cape season surely.....

All the best - you may get pleasantly suprised.
