42 First Entries For The 2024 R6m Gr1 Betway Summer Cup
Johannesburg, 9 October 2024

There are 42 runners entered for the R6 million Betway Summer Cup to be run over 2000m at Turffontein on Saturday 30 November 2024.

One of the most interesting entries is Michael Roberts-trained See It Again, winner of two Grade 1 races.

The five-year-old son of Twice Over was recently gelded and it was announced earlier that his next target would be this Grade 1 event.

Mike de Kock has entered seven runners, among them Equus Horse-Of-The-Year Dave The King. However, De Kock is unsure as to whether the Grade 1 Champions Cup winner will take his place in the final field as there could be other plans in the pipeline for the gelding.

Also among the nominations is dual Summer Cup title holder  Puerto Manzano as well as last year’s winner, Royal Victory, who also went on to win the Grade 1 Premier’s Champions Challenge over the same course and distance later in the season.

Intriguingly, 11 of the entries (Aragosta, Atticus Finch, Beating Wings, Frances Ethel, Future Pearl, Litigation, Puerto Manzano, River Romeo, Safe Passage, Silver Sanctuary and Winchester Mansion) are carded to meet in race 5, a 1600m Pinnacle Stakes at Turffontein this Saturday.

Second entries close at 1100 on Tuesday 5 November while final entries must be in by 0900 on Monday 18 November 2024, after which the weights will announced.

Declarations close at 1100 on Wednesday 20 November and the final fields with draws will be announced at a function.

The Operator in consultation with the NHA Handicappers will publish a series of Logs from 15 October 2024.

2024 BETWAY SUMMER CUP FIRST LOG
Johannesburg, 15 October 2024– 4Racing in conjunction with the Handicappers have published the first log for the 2024 R6 million Gr1 Betway Summer Cup to be run at Turffontein on Saturday 30 November.

Mike De Kock trained dual Grade 1 winner and Equus Horse Of The Year DAVE THE KING, owned in partnership by Messrs L M Nestadt & G J Player & Ralphs Racing (Pty) Ltd (Nom: Miss K Ralphs) heads the log. De Kock fields a total of seven entries with SILVER SANCTUARY, SAFE PASSAGE, ARAGOSTA, SHOEMAKER, EAST COAST and MARAUDING HORDE making up the balance.

Another two-time Grade 1 winner in SEE IT AGAIN is second on the log. Owned by Mr N Jonsson and trained by Michael Roberts, he tops the current Betway ante-post betting.

Defending 2023 Betway Summer Cup champion Royal Victory occupies third on the log. Trained by Nathan Kotzen, he runs for the partnership of Messrs PJ Victor, Late BJ Wiese, Mesdames Natasha Sturdy, BA Victor & Itssa It & Business Solutions (Pty) Ltd.

Sean Tarry charge COUSIN CASEY, owned by Kalinga, is fourth on the log. Sean Tarry has a total of seven entries, including HOTARUBI, FUTURE PEARL, LITIGATION, RED MAPLE, NEBRAAS and JORDAN.

Gr 2 SA Oaks winner FRANCES ETHEL, the ride of international superstar Oisin Murphy, appears in tenth on the log. She started her campaign with a cracking run in last weekend’s stacked Pinnacle Stakes at Turffontein. She runs for Team Valor International (Nom: Mr B Irwin), Mr H P Sambor, Mrs Vanashree & Mr Anant Singh and is trained by Brett Crawford.

 

 

Second entries close at 11am on Tuesday 05 November, and final entries at 9am on Monday, 18 November 2024, after which weights will be announced. Declarations must be in by 11am on Wednesday, 20 November 2024 and barrier draws will be conducted at a Betway event on 20 November 2024. The final log will be published on Tuesday 05 November 2024.
