Turffontein 9/11/24
Please be advised that the race meeting scheduled for Turffontein on 9 November 2024 has been postponed to Monday, 11 November 2024.
The track received over 20mm of rainfall in just a few hours this morning, and light drizzle is continuing.
Although the track is currently raceable, the forecast predicts rain throughout the day, beginning at 13:00 ,with a more significant storm expected around 16:00.
Given these conditions, there is a high likelihood that racing would commence but not be completed, prompting the decision to postpone the event.
Race times for Monday’s meeting will be confirmed later today.

Surprisingly the meeting was postponed - apparently 20mils of rain which imo would have softened the track up nicely - giving the runners that prefers a softer track a chance; the reason given to postpone does not make sense imo - 'high likelihood that racing would commenced but not be completed' - we all know weather predictions have been wrong before, so imo it would have been better to race - and then perhaps if needed postpone the Victory Moon to Monday - especially when rain is predicted throughout the weekend and to continue on Monday ....

I'd imagine the cost of taking a chance and splitting the meeting over two days would be far greater than making sure all races are run on one particular day. With the importance of the VM in relation to the SC and and the preps etc, I think it's the right decision to make sure that all of these races are run on a day, close enough to the original race day. While the amount of rain that fell wasn't significant - you can't take a chance and not have the VM run.
